Kansas is currently getting thumped by Temple 63-40 with 7:16 left. With us playing them next week I hope we don't get their frustration taken out on us.

Kind of reminds me of when Virginia Tech beat OSU and then OSU smokes us 66-0 the following week.

We are their next game too. They ended up losing 77-52. I'm not writing the good guys off but they have to show up with their A game.

I have to believe the heat is getting more intense on the ice Geno is standing on. Could be a make or break year.

The Braves' last non-conference game is a home game against UIC.

Sitting at 9-4 headed into conference play, I am curious......how are you feeling? Are you happy, disappointed, optimistic, concerned, etc. etc.?

Let's discuss. We only have 1 loss that would be considered a bad loss IMO. We simply didn't show up against Loyola. Usually that happens several times a year to all teams, so the fact that it's really only happened once is a good sign to me. I think we have the players and the desire to win the conference, however like anyone who will win it, we will need some luck along the way. Staying healthy from here on out is going to be a necessity if we are to compete for the title. Win your home games and steal a few on the road along the way has to be the formula. I can say, personally, I am looking forward to the next 3 months.

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
I will disagree about our losses. I posted this in another thread, but I will update it here:

Our four losses are to RPI #2-KU, #58-Loyola, #77-Yale, and #82 UTEP. The KU game we had almost no chance to win, but the other three were games with peers that we happened to lose. I don't excuse any of the losses, but any of the three games could have turned on single play late in the game. Now, we didn't make those plays and we lost all three, but all of those teams would be tough in the MAC. Not one bad loss to an inferior team. I can live with that. There is no team in the MAC that we don't match up with at least evenly. The real question is, are we going to win those toss-up games? That will be the difference between a 10-8 and a 13-5 or so MAC season.

I don't see a dominant team in the conference this year, and if there turns out to be one, it will probably be in the West. Even then, I see WMU, EMU, CMU, and Toledo beating each other up. The East? Buffalo and we look like the best two teams., but I think we can see that Ohio, Akron, and BG will win some games, too. Only Miami looks woeful. I think it's a fight every night, and I like the toughness and maturity of our team.

Guarded Optimism:

Hall seems to be the best, or at least most consistent, scoring option since Chris Evans. I like that this team has a guy like that...who can score around the basket.

The Thomas injury could catch up with them and although he is a guard, it has a trickle "up" effect from what I see.

My thing is will KSU play as a team with defined roles? If so, I think they can and will compete in the MAC. If guys go rogue and want touches more than wins....it will be a long season.

Me too.

I think the missing piece would be getting Khaliq Spicer more involved in the offense. And finding a good #3, because I don't see Ortiz, Brown (20% shooting), or Akbar (29 points in 151 minutres) helping out much there.

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
I'm excited to see what they can do in MAC play but I keep reminding myself we looked good in the out of conference portion of the schedule last year then tailed off hard. The East looks weaker than it has the last few years. We've got shooters and athletes and a few guys worth paying to see play. For the first time in a long time we have a post game and our perimeter shooting in reaping the benefits of that.

All that can be said after our non conference schedule is we look slightly better than last year. We will know 10 times more after 3-4 MAC games. Those are the teams that know how to defend us so starting tonight we will really begin to find out.

KSU signee Devon Andrews tearing it at Lorain High School - they're ranked #9 in the Cleveland area -> http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/ne...ion-video/

Andrews scored 26 against #20 Medina this week

More about Andrews -> http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/ne...ecognized/

"Andrews ranks in the Top 5 in 3 catagories. The steals and points for Andrews do not come as a surprise, but his high assists number shows how complete of player he is. He can score the ball as easily as any player in the area, but his unselfishness and determination to find the best shot is what makes him a special player" and "Andrews is quickly emerging as one of the most talented players in the area, and he showed that by scoring 25 points in a win against Medina on Tuesday night. He has the build of a Division I college basketball player, and he is only continuing to get better."

RE: KSU Basketball 2014-2015
And Jalin Avery is throwing up similar stats in Cincinnati - see http://www.cmacstats.com/bkStatistics.as...=14&div=-1
He leads his conference in points with 24.9 (second in conference has 21.1), leads the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference with 11,2 assists (2nd play has 7.1), and is 3rd in steals with 2.5. He's shooting 54% from the field and 40% from the 3.

You could have gotten a sneak preview of Avery on Sunday, when Cincinnati Shroder played at Cleveland St. Ignatius. Avery had 25 points and 10 assists, but Shroder went 0-16 from 3 point range and lost 74-64
