Suppose we have two potential all-MAC type QBs. The first, Roback, is more of a classical passer, someone who can throw the ball very well and is a very average runner.

The second, Bell, is an average passer with very rare speed. He's faster than the other team's cornerbacks. He's faster than his own receivers.

Let's just say they both develop. Which type of QB would you prefer? The exceptional passer who doesn't run very well or the excetpional runner who isn't a great passer?

I'm obviously simplifying these. Bell may turn out to be a decent passer and Roback better than average on his feet, but still they appear to have entirely different strengths and weaknesses. Which type of QB gives us the best chance to win?

Well on which one is better it depends on the offensive schemes which for now put a premium on a QB who is running threat. That would be Bell at least for this week. Honestly I would need to see Bell start the next 2-3 games to gauge his consistency. Bell's biggest potential weakness is not taking care of the ball.

I prefer the one that wins games.

To me Bell is clearly the one that I would feel more comfortable with. Right now we have a wide receiving core that isn't exactly setting the world on fire with their receiving ability, so having a better "passing" QB in there to have the WR's drop receptions isn't exactly helping the cause. Even though there was one mistake in the Buffalo game(the botched handoff) what I seemed to notice was that Bell wasn't making plays that were costing EMU field position. Everything was going forward and he was making smart decisions. He also seemed to handle the up tempo offense really well (actually he did well in the first game of the year against Morgan State with it as well)

Plus, Bell showed some very good speed on his two TD runs which forces the opponents to have to respect him as a viable option. This theoretically should open up the running game and Bell showed that he was a serviceable passer to keep the opponents honest.

From what I saw, Bell had that "it" factor that I haven't seen from an EMU player in ages, maybe ever. He is a freshman and may make a mistake or two but I think he's the guy that clearly gives us the best chance to win right now and truthfully I think I prefer a dynamic QB versus a pocket passer.. After all, how many pocket passers have we gone through over the past few years?

Reggie Bell is must see television or stadium. He can bust one at anytime and he is exactly what this program needed. Let's hope he has another dynamic performance tomorrow.

It's also possible that our future QB isn't on the roster yet. I still think Bell would be better suited to an Archer role.

CC needs to figure out his offense and his personnel.

Bell fits the read option offense we have been seeing.

Roback fits a different offense, the one English ran.

This is the type of example of why players transfer in college sports.

One coach runs and recruits for one scheme. Then a new coach comes in with a different scheme and then the personnel on hand doesn't fit the scheme.

I believe Roback is a high potential QB. I've seen a lot of MAC FB games this year and quite frankly most of the other offenses are a better fit for him then ours.

I think we can succeed with Reggie Bell at QB. It's up to the coaches to mix it up on offense and not get the kid killed.

Looking at the UMass performance I didn't him generate much in the way of turnovers which is good, what we saw against UMass may be a typical performance.

UMass is a high scoring offense, I'm more disappointed we couldn't keep up with them.
