What would you do?

I'm 61, so I am winding down. But I went to college to major in Radio/TV and my dream was to be a TV sports anchor.

I got sidetracked but later on, maybe in the mid 80s I began to wish that I had gotten involved in sports management for a school, pro franchise or even become a sports agent.

That's all water under the bridge now.

RE: If you could change your education or career or start all over again
I was pretty far along in my major when I realized it wasn't what I wanted to do. I figured it was too late to start from scratch so I stuck with it.

But if I had it to do all over again I would've gone either with engineering or law.

I think engineering would be more fun.

I'd go back and study brewing at UC Davis. Run my own brewery.

Without question I would have followed my father's advice and attend Annapolis. Biggest mistake of my life.

I wish I had gone on to get my master's and PhD in Art History, and then taught it.

I would be one of two things.....

A social worker

or the Director of the ASPCA

Why?

1. I love to help people who are downtrodden and need help.

2. And I LOVE animals.

Unfortunately, our society doesn't value those much, so I do what I do to support my family.

Mine's really boring. i play with numbers for a living, get to travel a good bit, and make decent money but I don't have an Accounting degree.

Instead of working full-time, I would have bitten the bullet & done internships (most were unpaid) in my major, Journalism. Even if I didn't make a career out of it, I might have had more freelance opportunities, etc.

Yeah same here, my Dad wanted me to go to Tulane, his alma mater. I had no idea at that age what that degree could mean. And, I probably had a chance to play baseball down there.

My best friend went to Tulane on the Navy's tab. That school is so cool that we stopped going to the Mardi Gras parades downtown and just hung out around campus after a few years.

I should have gone to dental school. Open a practice, work 3 1/2 days a week, just like my dentist. He owns 3 airplanes, flies down to the coast to eat lunch with his son and grand kids on the weekend on a whim...flies back in the afternoon....it's a tough life.

I would not have quit the porn industry when I did. They really started making the big bucks a few years after I quit.

not only that, but most dentists I know do none of the dirty work like cleaning , brushing, flossing or X-raying......they just show up at the end, take a look at your teeth, shake your hand and move on

But you still get royalties every time someone selects "vintage" don't you?

My mom was a RN. Her career suggestions for me was to be an eye doctor in a small town.

The long of it was that too many people had STD's and weren't taking the proper steps to deal with it. To complicate it, you couldn't make any money at the time wearing protection. If I would have been in the business about 6 or 7 years later, I could be retired and living on a Caribbean island right now.
