Santacatarina has played well. Every year I hope someone overtakes him but no one does. He just seems to make plays. He is not big or overly fast but has a fairly high football IQ.

This is not bashing Santa, the kid is a football player.

Not sure if you're trying to say he shouldn't be starting, or it's bad that no one has overtaken him?

Either way, other than Rock, Santa's been the best LB on the team this year. Me and plenty of others bashed him endlessly last year because he looked awful in some instances. You can tell how much work he put in this offseason, and the change in scheme probably helped, so I give him credit for that and how well he's played so far.

Me and him had a bad relationship last year.. I'd yell at him a lot through the TV.

Same here but he seems to beat out all comers. You look at some of the other linebackers they look the part. He just plays hard.

He looks like he loves playing the game, and I agree his football IQ is outstanding.
If he hasn't already, he needs to provide the leadership this team is in desparate need of.

I don't think it is as much on the player as it is the scheme. It seemed like a lot of our defenders last year were allowing the play to happen and then making the tackle (except Jimmie). Looked like it was the focus (bend don't break). There is still a carry over. I hate it when a defender sees the play develop, stands flat footed until it's completed and then makes the tackle. Santa was big on this last year. He always seemed to be in the right spot, but never really contested the play. On the opposite side, Payton would come in and contest the play, but be out of position and get burned? Santa is playing a lot faster this year and is one of the more disciplined LBs out there. Roc has been drawing some dumb penalties and is not the same player he was last year at Iowa. Boomer has been pretty consistent. I talked to Bass last off-season and he says Payton has a lot of potential and is a beast. He thought what he was able to do last year without really knowing the system was impressive.

I was at the MACC last year when RD and Santa's dad went blow to blow. DeLisi was mouthing off the whole first half about Santa and his dad just couldn't take it any more.

I saw that and it was deplorable on Delisis part. Bob Chimeil recruited Delisi when he was a Corso asst. Chmiel often says Delisi should be in the Hall of fame. If he ever got nominated I would write to protest.

I would protest as well. He also jacked one of my buddies in the jaw at Mollys. He was a real a$$. He was a good player, just not much of a human being.

Tonite it's No. 13 Geneva at No. 14 Batavia... Geneva QB Dan Santacaterina vs. Batavia defense led by Senior Noah Frazier...should be a good one, let's see what the NIU QB commit has.
