Can we have Manny Diaz back? Our defense hasn't been good since he left.03-weeping

RE: La Tech Fans
I think we lose him after this year, but not to MTSU. He's a very good coach.

Hope we can hang onto him for another year but if he keeps doing what he's been doing, he's going to be tough to keep from a P5 school.

RE: La Tech Fans
Weird that things got so sideways in Austin for him, he was great for us, Miss State and now you guys.

If we make a change this offseason I hope we at least try to bring him back to Murfreesboro. Tony Franklin left MT for LT for a nominal raise to follow coach Dykes, I think we would have a chance at prying him away to come back to a place that he and his wife loved, the first place to ever give him a DC shot and at 4 years, the longest he's stayed anywhere since NCSU.

We may not make a change, he may get another P5 job, but if we make a change and he's still in Ruston, calling anyone else first would be a mistake.

He made 103k at MTSU and averaged 227k in three years at Tech. I don't know if that's "nominal". He doubled up again making 550k at Cal.

I think Diaz wants to be a head coach, and I think he would be a good one.

I could see him leaving to be a P5 DC or a G5 HC.

I would be fine with him as the head coach at Tech with Rattay as the OC!

Did he get a raise while at Tech? I don't recall it being that big of a raise when he left.

According to the USA today coaches salaries the first year he went up to 175k. And his total pay was 175, 205, and 301. I think Dykes and staff got a raise every year.

I don't think he cared about the money. He made more on camps than he could from either of us. Even though he and Dykes are buddies, he might have stayed if our univ leadership wouldn't have reneged on letting him run his camps on campus. He had planned to retire there, but we screwed him over. Schools usually want a cut if it's on campus, but we were supposed to let him run it his way and keep all the profits but then I guess our lawyers got scared and they told him he couldn't have them at all. He left less than a month later.

Did Tech let him keep all the profits or did he not run his camps there?

True. That was another thing. He got to keep his camps with us. I don't know where he ran them. But I know he did them in the offseason and made money off of them. That said, I don't think a 70% raise is anything to sneeze at.

I'm not sure what he did with the money. He frequently seemed to he without socks or razors.
