Mountaineers -at- Trojans
Both teams have perfected the art of self destruction this year.
Which one will take advantage of what they have learned and pull off a win?

Troy is coming off their first win of the year against NMSU.
App State is coming off a devastating end zone interception in OT to lose.

RE: Mountaineers -at- Trojans
Don't know a lot about Troy, just that they won this past Saturday. Has been a disappointing year for them also. Both teams are almost perfectly bad.

Do know Troy has a good DE. Ja'von Stadium is leading in the freshman of the week voting. Had 10 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries against NMSU.

Plus Troy's QB Brandon Silvers 23 of 34 for 270 yards 3TD 0 int. and 14 rushes for 32 yards a couple of weeks ago for freshman of the week.

So Troy has some young talent coming on for them. But so does App.

Taylor Lamb is the App State QB, a RS freshman. He set new school record for total offense (419) and passing yards (397) by freshman. 20 - 31 - 3 TD's - 2 Int's this past Saturday.

RS RB Terrence Upshaw is now listed as the starter ahead of Marcus Cox. Both backs ran the ball very well this past Saturday with 111 yards and a touchdown each. However, Cox also lost two fumbles, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Should be an interesting football game Saturday at 2PM CT to see which team shoots themselves in the foot the most.

RE: Mountaineers -at- Trojans
"TROY, Alabama – Riding high after a Homecoming victory last weekend, Troy welcomes Sun Belt newcomer Appalachian State to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:04 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Pregame festivities get underway at 11:45 a.m. with Trojan Walk at the corner of George Wallace Drive and University Avenue. In Tailgate Terrace, the Troy Sports Radio Network Pregame Show will broadcast live from 12-1 p.m. and the Troy men’s and women’s basketball teams will be signing posters beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Troy will honor the 1984 NCAA Division II National Championship football team between the first and second quarter. Led by Troy University Sports Hall of Fame players Mike Turk and Ted Horstead, defensive coordinator Rick Rhoades and head coach Chan Gailey, the 1984 Trojans went 12-1 capped by a dramatic 18-17 victory over North Dakota State in the title game. Ted Clem kicked a 50-yard field goal as time expired to give the Trojans their second national championship in school history.

Troy handled New Mexico State from start to finish last weekend and dominated all three phases of the game. The Trojans won the most important stat as the final score read 41-24 in the home team’s favor, but all of the underlying numbers also tilted towards the Trojans."

This team is finally putting it all together and I'm relieved. Looking forward to the next 3 games for sure. I like TROY's chances.

I would settle for that myself. Both our running backs, Upshaw and Cox, had exactly 111 yards rushing each. Couldn't hurt.

RE: Mountaineers -at- Trojans
Although it will be their first Sun Belt Conference game against Troy on Saturday, the Mountaineers have played the Trojans three times.

The first meeting was in 1970, when Troy won a regular-season finale 42-0 in Troy, Ala.

The teams played twice in 2000. The Trojans won a regular-season meeting 34-28 in Boone, but the Mountaineers registered a 33-30 victory on the road in the Division I-AA playoffs.

Larry Blakeney, the Trojans’ long-time coach who is in his final season, said he remembers well the 2000 games.

“They won the one that counted the most, in the playoffs,” Blakeney said.

A game scheduled between the teams in 2001 in Troy, Ala., was cancelled after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

RE: Mountaineers -at- Trojans
I'm kinda curious on the outcome of this one.

I think most thought Troy better than the 0-5 prior to last week.

Troy did a good job of changing up some things and exploiting Aggie weaknesses, but they did so with two weeks prep and were playing for the coach and the homecoming queen.

But they did look pretty good.

A Trojan victory and I don't feel as bad about yielding their first one.

RE: Mountaineers -at- Trojans
Our 0-5 start really dumbfounded the fanbase, we definitely didn't see that coming. Looks to me like the team has turned some kind of corner, let's see if App State walks in to a rabid Trojan team with bloodlust on the mind.

I'm really looking forward to welcoming the Mountaineers inside the Walled City. I hope ya'll bring plenty of fans, I will do my best to greet every one I see. If you are coming to town please let us know in this thread so that we can possibly arrange some meet-n-greets. The Horse always welcomes his fellow bbs board members when theyre brave enough to venture to Blakeney Field.

Team looks as if they had put it together. Not just for the NMSU game. Troy looked better at ULM too but we lost 22-20 in the last min.

If the improved Troy shows up. App has no chance.

I'm not joking when I say I wish both teams could get a win, both fan bases are beyond upset right now.

I'll vote for Troy simply because they are at home.

You are right about that, both teams need a win badly. I have always thought a lot of Troy and almost hated having to play them. But one fan base will be pumped a little tomorrow and the other will be at probably their worst low ever.

Lamb broke the App freshman passing record on Saturday. But if you all want to join me in repressing the memory of that game that's totally ok.
