Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
Appalachian isn't exactly burning all bridges to find a new AD fast.
The old AD, Charlie Cobb, left for Georgia State in August.

Alan Hauser, Appalachian’s faculty athletics representative who is serving as chair for a 19-member search committee, said the committee is now “zeroing in” on a search firm that will help with all stages of the search.

“We have interviewed some search firms, but we have not yet put one of those search firms under contract,” Hauser said.

Lot of our fans wanted Mike Waddell when Charlie Cobb was hired.
He just took a new job in August though.

Just curious, how long has App been looking for a new AD?

AD searches typically take longer because there is no immediate need like there is for a coach of a team.

Since August of this year. Many seem to be concerned that the search committee consists of 19 people. That is a large number to get together at one time. However, the search committee hasn't even chosen a consulting firm yet.

RE: Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
Our AD search in 2012 seemed to go on forever. I believe Sam Baker resigned in June and Tom Kleinlein started in October.

I think this is a good sign for App and shows the new president cares about athletics. We did a very thorough search for our AD and it seems to have paid off so far.

Waddell has more skeletons than shirts in his closet. Don't do it.

Only administration that has ever seemed to be more conservative has been JMU.

I've known him for 20+ years and there are no skeletons. Mike's rubbed some people the wrong way over the years because he brutally honest, holds people accountable and doesn't put up with any crap. Think he sent half the Towson staff packing, but that's what the president hired him to do. You think Arkansas and Illinois would have hired him to high level positions with a bunch of baggage?

Are we taking our time so Mike doesn't jump ship mid year? He did a good job at Towson.

Not going to trash him, but I just hope ASU does better. This is a big hire for ya'll at a critical juncture.

Just wondered. NMSU has been looking roughly since about the end of August. We have a search committee, but they are not going to hire a consulting firm. The goal is to have a new AD announced at the end of the year.

RE: Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
With App is hiring a search firm I'd bet against Beasley. No need to pay $50K just to name him. Did a quick search of recent AD openings and taking up to 6 months isn't unusual. Ga State & N Dakota State took 3 months and that's like record time compared to others. Fresno State opened up early Aug and they say it will be Jan 2015 before a replacement is hired. Ball State opened up Sept 12 and have set a Jan 2015 end date. Cal's AD was reassigned end of June and they're saying it will be March or April 2015 before new person is hired. Marquette's AD job was open from Dec 2013 until Sept 2014.

App is Mike's dream job, but timing is everything. Had Cobb had left 2 weeks earlier he would have stayed at Arkansas and been all over this thing. Wads worked for Mike Thomas at Illinois when he was at Akron & Cincinnati and is one of his closest friends. Thomas created a position to get him up there and Mike will not apply for the App job out of respect and appreciation to what Thomas did for him.
