When did you become...
...a fan of your school?

Some of you became fans as a student. Some others became fans by supporting a spouse or other family reasons. Others may have been born into it.

Me? I became a fan back in the 80's during the Div II days as a young preteen lad living in Philly, PA.

What's your reasoning??

RE: When did you become...
My mother grew up a block from U of Toledo (TU then) before the U began building. She watched it be built and graduated from there as did my Dad. One of my earliest memories was being put in an old TU sweatshirt. Spent many hours on campus at a young age when we visited GPs. Never thought seriously of going anywhere else.

RE: When did you become...
I became a fan of BG hockey when they won the NCAA championship.

I became a fan of the other sports programs when I planned to transfer there. I became a loyal fan after I was there and realized that I should be true to my school and stop paying attention to ZSU like so many other BG students!

RE: When did you become...
Became a fan 40 years ago when in high school was called done to the office and there was a x-country recruiter in the office. Had already been up their to check out the schools. Was crushed when my floor was going to the football game and had to work in the dinning commons.

The funny thing is this year at the football golf outing was talking to a man, who told me that he should have seen him. He was head of the dinning commons and would have worked it.

RE: When did you become...
I grew up in Kent surrounded by college kids. My first crush was on a whole apartment of coeds and that swayed me towards Kent. What really pushed me over the edge was during the summer of 2001. There is a basketball court right outside the dorms by the ice arena where we would go to play pick up games. During that summer a few of the basketball players came out and played with us. It was the most fun I have ever had losing. Those games really drew me into the basketball team and solidified my choice of schools.

Woke up next to an orange traffic cone, and a CMU coed said, "Get your ass up, kick-off is in fifteen minutes!"

RE: When did you become...
I grew up in Cincinnati, but in those days Miami didn't get a lot of coverage locallly....UC was just coming off some of its NCAA b-ball titles and dominated the sports pages.....the Bengals started up when I was about 12 years old so I was a Browns fan when i was very young.

Anyway, in high schoo I went to Miami's summer camp for basketball and stayed in a dorm on the then Western campus.....fell in love with the place then and began to follow their sports more closely. Then, when I was at Miami we had some of our best football teams n history, being ranked two of the years I was there, and conference champs 3 of the 4 years I was attending.

I first heard about CMU while attending a CMU-EMU tilt at Rynearson in the mid-80s (yes, there were EMU fans in the stadium back then! 04-jawdrop ). Later, when I was visiting colleges as a H.S. Jr, I fell in love with CMU's campus. I enrolled less than two years later.

My grandpa was a defensive captain for the Broncos, so I've been a fan since Day 1 of my life.

RE: When did you become...
When I was a student at WMU in the mid-90s, I would occasionally go to a football or basketball game, but probably couldn't tell you more than a couple names on each team and didn't pay that much attention.

Oddly enough, it was only after I graduated that I became more of a hard-core fan of Bronco sports teams. Indeed, the rise of the Internet helped.

i t would have to be right before the 35-0 streak. The 67 Rocket squad with QB John Schneider and Roland Moss toting the ball, Tom Buetler on defense, was a preview of what was to come for Toledo football...

My parents went to Toledo and my dad was a big fan while I grew up. I went to a number of games, mainly the UT-BG game and in high school went to a number of games. Im a much bigger fan than my dad now, even though I didnt go to UT. Finally talked him into season tickets this year.

Have been to a number of away games as well to cheer on the Rockets.

The MAC needs more non-alum fans. Great to have you on board!

Didn't follow NIU until I went to school there. I remember the football coach at the time (Pettibone) coming into the dorm cafeteria and encouraging us to go to the games. I had fun at the games, and I liked that we played some teams that I had heard of at least, though most of them were road games. As opposed to going to a Division III school, e.g.
