WMDs found in Iraq but covered up
FOX reported this morning that WMDs were discovered in Iraq, but kept quiet. They supposedly have one witness that handled for example 2,400 of 5,000 chemical warheads they removed.

And those were the ones not moved to Syria and Iran while waiting to go into Iraq from the delays in getting into Iraq as well as Iraq moving Their Air force with them.

I have a hard time believing this. I can't imagine a reason why anyone would have wanted it covered up.

I feel the same way. Why would the government cover it up. Doesn't make sense.
Also, why make this assertion right now. The elections?

RE: WMDs found in Iraq but covered up
I still think the most likely fact situation is that there were NBC weapons (a term I prefer to WMD) in Iraq, but they were moved. And that movement occurred while we were going back to the UN seeking approval that we didn't need and never got. Moreover, it was really at the UN that we made the NBC weapons case. Congress had pretty much already gone along on other grounds. Powell's presentation was to the UN, not to a session of congress.

So if we don't go to the UN, maybe this never becomes a deal where we have to find NBC weapons to justify going in, and maybe we find them anyway.

All that being said, we should never have gone into Iraq 1) before Afghanistan was done, and 2) without intending to win. Come to think of it, the reason Afghanistan didn't get done sooner (hint: still not done today) is that we didn't go in there to win either.

RE: WMDs found in Iraq but covered up
After Iraq was occupied, reports from the CIA in 2005 concluded they found much of Iraq’s WMD development programs, which included a very limited development nuclear weapons program, 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium dating from before 1991, maintenance of dual-usage chemical weapons technology, and an unexpected air force buried in the sand

"Today we have the news that “Iraq Crisis: ISIS jihadists have Seized Saddam Hussein’s Chemical Weapons Stockpile,”reported by the Telegraph in Britain and by the Wall Street Journal (paywall). In their advance to encircle Baghdad"....that was from back in June 2014.
http://americanelephant.wordpress.com/20...they-lied/

Always wondered why ISIS could find so many chemical weapons when we supposedly didn't. Then later on we say we knew about those, so that was confusing also. Only reason could see we would avoid talking about it if it was to protect the sites we found but decided not to move for some reasons.

RE: WMDs found in Iraq but covered up
I posted on and on and on about an Al Qua Qua facility back in 2005ish on here. ISIS's precursor henchmen raided that facility for weeks maybe even months before we secured it. It was a weapons facility and you just know a great deal of the IED's that blew our boys up for years were secured during those first couple of months. No one ever talks about that. We secured the oil facilities THE VERY FIRST DAY. Sent in Navy Seals and all but we let go a major weapons facility for months. The whole reason we went into the war was for WMD's and we let Al QUA QUA go for weeks or months????? Their actions NEVER matched their stated intentions. Shiyt still gets my blood pressure up to this day.

Fwiw, my spouse was in Iraq in 2005-06. He stated to me multiple times that they found WMDs and/or the materials to make them and never understood why that wasn't made public. But as a grunt it was never his job to ask those questions.

Wouldn't make sense to bring it up for these elections.. (at least to me) I can't see anyone saying "Yes, there were WMD's there, so let's vote for {candidate x} now", unless you're worried that ISIS would get their hands on something of that regard.

I can just see Obama - "I found WMDs in Iraq when the previous Republican-Tea Party administration failed to do so, something more about me, me, me, Republicans are bad, mmmmkay?".

I always find it amusing how people can believe that the government is incompetent while at the same time believe that they can pull off conspiracies and keep things secret for years.

I think when people here the phrase "chemical weapons" or "WMD", they envision a huge research facility under the control of a James-Bond villain. But really, this stuff could fit inside an average refrigerator.

The "government" is comprised of millions of people, but they don't all work together, and they don't all have the same knowledge, awareness, or skill-sets. Some of them are childishly incompetent at even the most basic tasks, and some of them are able to keep things secret and organize complicated projects with the utmost discretion. So yes "the government" can be both staggeringly-incompetent and successfully-conspiratorial all at once.

I don't believe the US government is engaged in a "conspiracy" about Hussein's weapons, though.

I believe they can and do try to conspire and pull off conspiracies. Because of said incompetency, I believe they universally fail, or at least fail to achieve their objectives, even when the conspiracy is kicked off publicly, as in a state of the union address.

They are competent at pulling off conspiracies and keeping things secret for years. They are not competent at fulfilling their mission.

And it's really pretty simple why (or why not). Government lacks the profit motive. In business, it all comes down to the bottom line, so it's much easier to keep people focused on the prize. We make more money, I can pay you a bigger bonus, to start with. In government, there is no bottom line to tie back to performance. If I'm working in an anti-poverty program, obviously the objective is ending poverty. But it we do that, then there's no need for us any more and we're all out of jobs. So we focus on filling our individual rice bowls instead of the stated overall mission. Conspiracies and secrets are often essential to filling our rice bowls. I worked in that environment for years, as both employee and later consultant. I understand how it works. And it's different, it just is different.
