Can ECU make 4 team playoffs?
Yes, I know it's a long shot, but is there any chance (1%, 5%, 10%) that ECU makes the playoffs. They seem to be jumping up 2-3 spots every week. If they continue to move up 2 spots a week for the next 6-7 weeks, that puts them well within the top 10 and knocking on the door. Obviously many things would have to happen and most major programs would need at least 2 losses or more and there would have to be an unprecedented amount of upsets. And if this is not possible, how high can they realistically go. Top 10, top 8??

I figure even if we win out, we'll max out at about #10 or #11. No chance at the playoffs IMO.

Sure there's a chance but a LOT of crazy stuff would have to happen.

RE: Can ECU make 4 team playoffs?
It would take a lot of two loss teams and one loss would have to be from the bottom of their conference.

RE: Can ECU make 4 team playoffs?
I would say even if we had beaten South Carolina and were to go on and finish the year 12-0 we wouldn't make the playoffs unless (1) South Carolina won the SEC and (2) either UNC or VT went on to win the ACC title. I think it would be hard to justify keeping us out if we had beaten two P5 champions. But IMO that's the only way it could have happened.

Do you honestly believe that the P5 cabal will let a non-member play for the mythical national championship, especially in the first year of their new grand experiment? It ain't happening.

Aside from that, ECU is not deserving of that chance this year. The goal is the access bowl.

There is ALWAYS a chance. It's just that the scenarios that would have to play out around the country are highly unlikely to happen (ie, conference CG upsets, lots of 2 loss teams in top 10, etc).

Even an undefeated ECU would be a very, very long shot. The loss to 3-3 SCar means there's no chance.

Nope. Cartel 5 would never allow it. Maybe an undefeated non cartel member would have a 1 and a ten thousand chance. A 1 loss team?

This is why our league should be advocating a 16 team playoff with all conference champs included plus 6 wild cards. Win your conference and you are in.

The four team playoff BS is designed specifically to keep teams like ECU out and not given a chance.

RE: Can ECU make 4 team playoffs?
Nope. Doubt there would be a vhance to make an 8 team playoff if one existed. It will take 3 or more 1 loss seasons and running the table in AAC every year before ECU would even begin to enter the conversation. Oh, and the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, and probably PAC 12 champ wpuld have to have 2 losses.

A 16 team playoff will never fly, they'll use the 'too many games that take away from the student athletes' excuse.

RE: Can ECU make 4 team playoffs?
We'd have to blow out (aka 3+ TD margin of victory) the remaining schools on the schedule. I don't think we can do that it would take that to move up the polls enough to earn the shot.
