It's going to be very interesting to see the replacement for Slive. One of the most important guys in college sports obviously today.

I think this is the start of something we knew was coming...

Slive is 74.
Jim Delany is 67.
Swofford is 66.

Pretty soon- within 5-6 years- all 3 will be gone from their spots.

Mike Slive was a blessing to C-USA before he left for the SEC. He ensured we had the best bowl access of any league not named the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Pac 10, or Big XII.

If he had stuck with C-USA, would they have left ESPN in 2008?

And Bowlsby is 62. Only Larry Scott has a long term future.

True- though Bowlsby still could have 12-13 more years.

Sad that he has to deal with prostate cancer! It will be interesting to see who they tap to take his place, big shoes to fill.

Roy Kramer revolutionized college sports, for better or worse. Slive kept it going.

The ones I feel sorry for are the kids the colleges never prepared for life after football

Going all the way back to the days of Jackie Robinson, a long, long time ago.

Larry will be there 4-5 more years, tops. He's all about making big splashes, not the day-to-day grind of running a conference. Once he decides that he can't land the Longhorns anytime soon and can't triple the Pac's TV contract again in the next go-around, he'll become the commissioner of UFC or NASCAR or they'll create a position of unified world tennis commissioner for him. The Pac-12 has already hired an heir apparent who can take over whenever that happens.

RE: SEC Commish Mike Slive retiring
Slive probably doesn't want to be part of all the headaches that are about to come with massive negotiations. DeLoss felt the same way at Texas.

Let someone else that is younger and has the energy for it go ahead and take the reins now before the season ends and "other stuff" begins.
