Cincinnati can still win the AAC

I for one am not counting Cincinnati out, but it'll need a lot of help from ECU and friends. I see three straight wins before that Thursday night showdown, and if the Cats can pull that off (in Paul Brown), then their chances are really good from there.

But man... that defense. Hard to believe the talent isn't there after recent success. Schematically, I'm looking for a major change -- can't get worse than it is anyway.

Lol not unless it finds a defense. Usf, ecu, maybe Houston will beat cinci and probably another team like temple.

Other than the Toledo game, Cincy has done none nothing that distinguishes it from USF, Tulane, etc. - i.e. second division. And they play those 2 soon, so we'll see.

RE: Cincinnati can still win the AAC
One of the biggest disappointments in this Bearcat defensive struggles has been Tuberville's "deer in the headlights" reaction. I've watched or heard a couple of his post game/conference calls and "we just can't stop anybody" has been his most technical response. He comes off as being completely lost in any answers to change the direction of the defense. Maybe there aren't any answers, but he should at least have the appearance (for the players if for no one else) of having some semblance of a solution.

I'll admit that I've had a weird feeling about that guy since his questionable manner of leaving ole miss and Texas Tech to a lesser degree....plus I'd like to wipe that smirk off of his face that he always has on the sideline. :) The guy has just always come off as not being even remotely up-front with or even connected with fans/press/etc.

.....just my opinion and impression from afar.

Cincy is in the bottom half of the conference and might be in that 8-9 range. Hopefully cincy cleans it up next year. We need them back.

Jones left nothing upfront on D. Beard, Mitchell should be upperclassmen playing well.
Hopefully we improve. Only good thing is that a bunch of guys are playing now and getting experience.

Cincy's offense is good enough to keep them in pretty much every conference game left on their schedule, and their defense is bad enough to give them a shot to lose just about every game left on their schedule. I don't think SMU, USF, Tulane, and UCONN can score enough points to beat UC despite their defense, but ECU, Temple, and Houston probably can. It's sad to look at because Gunner is a stud and with even a semi serviceable defense Cincy would have been a serious access bowl contender.

I pretty much agree with this. The good news is that ECU and Houston are both home games. Anything is possible when the swing games are home games, but the defense has to get better fast or it will start affecting the offense (if nothing else by attitude) if it hasn't already.

You must have three things to beat the Bearcat D:
1) You must be alive.
2) You must be ambulatory. (Though I have reason to think this may be optional)
3) You must have a football.

If you have those three things, you're good to go.

I would say UC's offense has been much better than the USF, Tulane, Tulsa, and UConn offenses.

UC's defense on the other hand, well we all know how that's going. So that is the equalizer.

Any or all of those teams are capable of beating UC unless the Bearcats somehow, some way start to play defense.

Theoretically so can USF....but that doesn't mean it's plausible.

I wouldn't be shocked if ECU hung 80 on UC.

RE: Cincinnati can still win the AAC
cincy isnt winning the league but they can still finish with 7/8 wins
their offense is good enough to beat anyone on their schedule but the defense is bad and the offense to onesided (passing) for me to see them winning out...

funny thing is preseason it looked like all Cincy needed was decent qb play to win it all, and have gunner be atleast decent enough to give them 25-30 a game to be league champs..

come to find out gunner has more than exceeded expectation but everything else has collapsed, and now all cincy has is gunner
