Team Banks vs. Team DWash
Parrish was on Calkins radio show this a.m. talking about chemistry. Referred back to an incident that occurred a week before Barclay knocked Banks out. He said that Coach Cal could feel the tension because the team had split into two factions. Said that Washington "hated" Banks. Coach stopped practice and told the team that he could tell what was going on and that everybody on the team had better pick a side and that they all needed to keep in mind that he(Cal) was on DWash's side. A week later, Barclay laid Banks out. Parrish said that Banks and his boys included "the other drug dealer that was on the team."

Man, the chemistry on the team that year was something else.

I loved all the wins, but Cal did put some unsavory characters on some of those teams. We don't have a bunch of saints on the team now, but it's nice to know Pastner won't tolerate Plush Club incidents every other weekend.

RE: Team Banks vs. Team DWash
I always wondered had Cal not known that Banks was about to flunk out if he would have handled things differently. Makes sense to back DWash knowing that Banks wouldn't be there the following semester.

Banks had carried the team the previous year and should have been the featured player on offense if not for the ball-hogging freshman point guard. From a purely basketball perspective and not taking any off-court stuff into account I'm not sure hitching the waggon to the freshman shoot-first point guard was the best decision.

Banks was a knucklehead no doubt but DWash always seemed like a selfish and cocky player to me and I doubt that was good for team chemistry. Team USA seemed to agree and his comments when he was cut said a lot about his character.

I'd take drug dealers, pot heads, Plush Clubbers and whatever else on the team now if we were in the E8 and F4 every year.

Looking back at that roster he must be refering to Clyde Wade. Andre Allen had to sit out that year and Shawne Williams didnt arrive until the following year.

Of course it's Clyde Wade.

Weren't Wade and Banks involved with the incident wherein Banks' expensive SUV was found torched in a field or something? Am I remembering this correctly?

I thought those were football players, one of them being a questionable transfer from LSU.

May have had something to do with a girlfriend messing with a basketball player though, was a long time ago, I may be combining parts of two different incidents.

Sounds like at least two of them were majoring in chemistry.

Both of Cal's had one thing in common, freshman score-first point guards.

I can understand giving Wagner the green light but I would have liked to have seen Washington dial it back a bit and trust his teammates more.

@geoff_calkins: Show cranking up @GaryParrishCBS at 9:20 and we'll talk about Tiger hoops media day, in which Joe Jackson was thrown under the bus. 92.9FM.

IMO Sean Banks had the most talent and was the best basketball player I've ever seen wear a Tiger uniform - when he wanted to be, which was rarely. That kid had some serious issues.

I rember Banks carrying the team to s road win -scored like 7 straight possessions at the end of a game
Like D Rose against Ksnsas 2nd half (he was still sick 1st half and decided
HE had to take over the game
Banks could have been a great one

One of the biggest wastes of talent ever to wear a Tiger uniform

I'd rather have wins that cannot be vacated
