Last year was a fluke of a weak schedule, and Quinn has never beat a team with a .500 record, nor a team with a +120 Sagarin.
..

Sadly I have to correct you, 2 of Quinn's 20 wins were against teams with .500 record or better-

Ohio (10-4)
Ohio (7-6)
@Kent State (4-8)
Miami (4-8)
WMU (4-8)
UConn (3-9)
EMU (2-10)
@BGSU (2-10)
@UMass (1-11)
@WMU (1-11)
UMass (1-11)
Akron (1-11)
Miami (1-6)
@Miami (0-12)
Rhode Island(FCS)
Stony Brook (FCS)
Morgan State (FCS)
Stony Brook (FCS)
Duquesne (FCS)
Norfolk State (FCS)

If there is one thing good Ohio teams do well its lose to teams that they are not supposed to lose to. Maybe more telling is that Quinn only won 5 road games in 4.5 years and only beat 1 non-FCS team in non conference play.

As tough as the EMU loss was the remaining schedule of CMU, Ohio, Akron, Kent St an UMass has some winnable games, seems odd to throw the team into chaos at this point in the season.

This was a strange time to make this move. EMU was a surprising loss, but still UB was likely to get bowl eligible. Unless there was a discipline problem with the team, which I doubt, the AD just cut the legs off this team. I do not see this season ending well for UB. I had the impresion that his players like playing for him, if that is correct there may be some real fallout this year from this move. I felt like Quinn had slowly built UB into a solid MAC program.

Buffalo needs 7 wins to get bowl eligible. Sitting at 3 - 4 it's doubtful they go 4 - 1 with their remaining schedule to get post season eligible. Had they beat EMU it may have been a different story. I think the timing make sense. With the loss to EMU there wasn't much left to play for so if you are going to make a switch why delay the inevitable.

Maybe as much the bye week as the EMU loss, timing-wise. Can't think of any other reasons to pull the trigger now...unless there is more to this.

RE: Buffalo fires Jeff Quinn
The time is really bad, mid-season. Why did they pull the trigger now? Are they giving Alex Wood a shot at earning the job by performance during the rest of the season?

Is big donor picking up the remainder of the contract or is the University eating the bill?

Sounds like some people on ubbullrun site.

This is from the a link on their site with a comment that details need to be checked, but to me looks like $325k.

Quote:In the even Quinn is terminated he gets a one time check which changes per year.

2014 ($325,000)
2015 ($250,000)
2016 ($175,000)
2017 ($100,000)

I think most MAC fans expected a dropoff from last year after Mack and others left, but Quinn has done a decent job building UB from the ground up after Gil left the cupboard relatively bare.

You have been watching too much ESPN... Quinn had Talent he chased some of it off..

Bo, Neutz, and Mack were Turner Gill Recruits.

Ok so UB pays quinn for this year and then owes him 250, 175, 100 unless he finds a coaching job, then we owe him the difference.

They lost to 2 of arguably the worst FBS teams in the country, Army and EMU. They could have easily lost to Duquesne. White has fired every other coach who has underachieved in every sport at UB and they've gotten better. It's time to bring in the next hot shot assistant or big name coach. Above all, UB has to find someone who can recruit speed. Every other team they play has faster skill position players and LB's. Quinn could never get those guys here. UB has 1 game over the next 23 days so it was the perfect time to make a change.

I just read Danny White's bio and it mentioned his father. Is he making these type of moves now for that job later?

RE: Buffalo fires Jeff Quinn
The timing is to

1) Be at the front of the line for a new coach and have the most possible options in the hiring process

2) if the fire was a foregone conclusion, then doing it before the bye week gives them time to regroup and refocus.

3) insult eastern michigan, sorry hurons/eagles, a (supposedly) decent D1 team can't lose to you and save face.

overall quinn had 1 pretty good year (a team led by 2 sr soon to be NFL starters and big time college wr). he pretty much sucked every other yr.

I'm glad WMU isn't playing Buffalo his week. That really threw us off last year when EMU fired their coach.

Just make sure Wood is kept on a tight leash so you can limit the damage he causes.

I feel really bad for you Bulls fans. Great school in a city of real solid folks but are now saddled with Alex Wood as your coach. I hope for the programs' sake his power is extremely limited and only extends to the end of the season. The man singlehandedly set our program back many years. Between his recruiting and his alienation of the players & fans- don't let this man run your program.

RE: Buffalo fires Jeff Quinn
I think the timing is appropriate and I don't think anyone thinks Wood is a long term answer. I think there was some concern that with the weak schedule Quinn would still reel off enough wins that would make it hard to justify letting him go at the end of the season, especially if he got to another bowl game.

Quinn was pretty universally disliked by UB fans. Everyone on the roster now is a Hurley recruit as far as i can tell and there isn't much talent to be found. It's now been 2-3 years of getting commitments from a majority of players without other D1 offers. I think White saw what's happening in WMU and thinks he can make it happen at UB. My bet is White will try for a big splash hire akin to Hurley.

I think it's safe to say that Wood is not the long-term coach. Danny White came from Ole Miss and he's got a ton of connections in Mississippi. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if White already has some hot shot assistant lined up from SEC country. Either that or a "name" coach who maybe has fallen on hard times and wants back in the coaching game. They need someone who can recruit a few southern kids like Turner Gill did.

BTW- UB has already lost to Army and EMU. Two very poor FBS teams. The Bulls are not getting a sniff from a bowl game unless they win their last 5 and do it impressively. (not gonna happen therefore the timing of the firing during this down period - 1 game in 24 days- makes sense).

As to point No. 3: As I said on the EMU board, my immediate, short-term goal for EMU is to get to the point where losing to EMU doesn't mean losing one's job! 03-lmfao
