How's the picture quality?

Excellent. Going from a 23" monitor to 32" HD is truly amazing.

Also games on ESPN's GamePlan (college FB games including an occasional MAC game) are telecast in SD. I believe the UMass/Toledo game was on GamePlan today.

Is there a monthly charge for chromecast? Or is it just a 1 time fee to buy the Chromecast?

I'm using Roku 3. (I had trouble getting Chromecast working with my wireless network - but that was on me. I'm using Roku 3 and have an Ethernet cable between my router and the small, donut-sized, Roku 3 box)

No charge.

You can subscribe to things, but there are no charges for the Roku 3 service.

E.g., WatchESPN access is provided through your television provider so there is no additional charge to watch events.
