My health insurance premiums were cut by >40%; my benefits have improved in most scenarios but are worse in a select few. Overall I'm very pleased with the ACA.

Like most have said, it helps some and hurts others....just like the last system we had. It was broken then, and it's broken now. We deserve better.

Just curious what do you have for coverage now, what did you have before.

I personally don't know of anyone who had a good plan who say their new one is better.

I've heard a few third party stories of people who had terrible coverage in low level jobs, and their current ACA coverage is better-------than terrible.

RE: Thank you Obamacare :(
My coverage has gotten worse and premiums have increased. I now have the choice between a high-premium/low-deductible PPO plan or a low-premium/high-deductible HSA plan. Luckily my wife's company will reimburse our premiums up to $500/mo so we're able to stay on the PPO plan. In any other case it's beneficial to choose the HSA and apply the premiums you would pay to your HSA account. UNLESS you have expensive prescriptions...in which case you're F'd if you're on the HSA plan, because they aren't paid until you reach your deductible.

I will say though that annual/preventative doctor visits are now covered 100%, so you don't pay at all, except for "unexpected" things.....like a baby, which we're expecting in March!! I snuck that in there to see if people are still paying attention.

RE: Thank you Obamacare :(
Premiums were and go up almost every year. They still mostly go up every year just not as much. You already were paying for people who didn't have insurance. Obama care actually is the Republicans version. Obama is in favor of universal health care. The reason the Republicans don't like Obama care is they know that people will come to like it. As, the Republicans said as Obama was being sworn in, we have to oppose everything he wants to do! Of course Insurance companies are going to blame Obama care. Who in their right mind believes the Republicans want Obama and America to be doing well!

Pretend you're an insurance actuary.

25 year old, healthy, non smoker, odds of getting very sick? Very low
40 year old, healthy, non smoker, odds of getting very sick? Medium to low

Any age bracket, suffering from a major illness, coming on board needing healthcare. Odds of costing the company $hit loads of money? 100%

Insurance companies didn't used to have to cover someone signing up with pre-existing conditions. That's not how insurance or Vegas work. It's a money losing proposition.

That said, how does the insurance company make up for that loss? Jack up premiums, which happen every year, but are much worse this year (hmmm, wonder why). And you make the deductible so high that the only time they will likely have to pay a claim is on a catastrophic illness.

Hell, why even buy insurance. If you have a $4000 deductible, with $10,000 in premiums there's a legit chance that you drop $12,000 and never even make a claim on the insurance that year.

Pay the fine, get coverage when you have a catastrophic illness.

Terrible model.

More over, the whole thing was set up to protect the 30 million uninsured. Guess what? There are still 30 million uninsured.
