Lost in the shuffle on defense....
Is that it appears to me that Regge Owens and Felonte Misher are playing really well. I love what both are doing. Im not sure of Owens will get a look at the next level buti would venture to guess Misher will be in an NFL training camp.

I really like Owens, he has grown on me. Misher has been my favorite player since early last season, I know it is some sort of fan no-no but he is probably our best player this season.

RE: Lost in the shuffle on defense....
I never hear anything about Owens, but he seems to play well every week. I hardly ever see him get beat down the field and he provides solid run support on all those WR screens teams have been running vs. us. (ask the Marshall kid he about knocked out)

Misher is my favorite player to watch on the team. He just does so many things on the field that it's a shame we don't get more pressure on the QB or he'd have some game changing plays. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQofhajnVC4

RE: Lost in the shuffle on defense....
Great observation. The big question I have is what happened to Andre Simmons??? We need help and at safety because Paulhill is trying, but not sure he is the answer. I know Simmons was shifted to LB and is not playing, but I can't believe he could not go back to safety and help us. Anyone know anything or have any ideas?

RE: Lost in the shuffle on defense....
I read recently that Simmons was injured and I haven't noticed if he's been getting some game action. Part of the issue is how to best utilize Misher and for now, that's in a strong safety type role, which is what Simmons would have been playing with Misher at free safety. I think I like Misher at SS with Paulhill/Byrum at free safety over Simmons/Misher.

Also, it was Owens that saved the Citadel game for us last year.

Giles, I saw that too and the explains the UTEP game, but not the three games prior. As for Misher I agree and would give Byrum some snaps, but in the right spot. I am going to take pass on Paulhill. I do not see that he brings to the party. Obviously the coaches do and I will go with them.

Mishner is the best tackler on the team, hands down. He's made some awesome open-field tackles. The rest of the defense needs to take a lesson from him.

I agree he's one of the best tacklers on the team! But hey don't discredit the rest of the players on defense! You may not know this but he and LB DJ Simon are tops on the team in total tackles with (50) each.
LB-DJ Simon (50) Tackles
LB-Martez Simpson (44) Tackles
LB-TJ Ricks (42) Tackles
All (3) are in the top-10 for total tackles at the LB Position in C-USA.
While Mishner and Paulhill are also in C-USA Top-10 in tackles at (50) and (38) at the Safety Position.

RE: Lost in the shuffle on defense....
I hesitate to judge based on total tackles bc our defense averages about 75 plays a game because they don't get off the field. They play pretty conservative and don't allow big plays, but team go on 15 play drives.

I have been impressed with the improvement at the LB core this year though.

I hear you on the conservative play calling thing! Maybe the coaches will take some chances the remainder of this season and install more blitz package like they did in the UTEP game.

No idea, but send a tweet or email to Harry Minium. He usually responds.

I agree we need to mix it up and blitz but it seems like we get burned way too often with a screen or slant pass. Maybe we aren't disguising them well enough.

It is not good when your players lead the conference in tackles. Misher is our best tackler but Simon and Simpson are good as well.
