This. IMO after seeing how we've played the last couple of weeks, 16 is too high for us...but I'll take it in a heartbeat.

Well you were right.

AP has ECU ranked 18th

UCF opened the door for us all last season when they took the title from ESPN's bastard love child Louisville and curbed stomped the Big 12 Champion in the Fiesta Bowl. So thank you UCF you got the job done.

I don't think we are really top 16 but chaos reigns and I'll take anything I can get

I know our trajectory is likely to slow down a bit but it seems like everybody wants us to move up. Also, Ohio State continuing to win does help our cause. Make no mistake but if ECU finishes the regular season with just the one loss then the Pirates will likely be in the top 10 prior to the bowl game.

I think we are also benefiting by the amount of chaos going on. Teams winning and losing that aren't suppose to nationwide.

But I do feel mid-teens is too high for us right now. Unless we open it up again. And as long as we stay ahead of Marsha

I copied this from cusa board. What are your opinions? A Marshall fan made this comment.
I made this post on the AAC board and would like everyone's thoughts on the matter. I would be lying if I said that this "race" has not made things more interesting. So far, it's been fun to keep up with things.

Here you go:

The race for the Access Bowl has come down to four teams: Colorado State, East Carolina, Temple and Marshall. Of these, Marshall has the best shot at making it due to their SOS, as I don't think that ECU, Temple or CSU will finish without another loss.

Marshall's toughest remaining games: FIU, UAB and a conference championship game (against either Rice or La Tech, if I'm guessing).

ECU's toughest remaining games: Temple, Cincinnati, Central Florida.

Temple's toughest remaining games: Pick one. They have Ped State, Cinci, UCF, ECU, Houston and Memphis left. They have the smallest chance -by far- of winning out. My guess is that they beat PSU, Cinci and Tulane to finish with a 7-5 record. I could easily see them sneaking out a win against ECU at home, as well.

CSU's toughest remaining games: Utah State, Air Force and a conference championship game (against SDSU or SJSU).

ECU sputtered in the first half yesterday against USF but dominated the second half. I've read on the CUSA board that Marshall looked undisciplined and sloppy at times in their game against Middle as well. I watched Colorado State get up on Nevada 31-10 and then turned it off; it appears that Nevada staged one hell of a comeback attempt.

Anything can happen from here on out but if yesterday told me anything, it's that both ECU and CSU will likely drop one along the way and that Marshall is likely to win out.

Before I get piled on regarding my SOS remark, please don't take it as a smart-a$$ed remark. I'm just telling things as I see them. The road games that Marshall will play against both FIU and UAB will be tough, as will a conference championship game... even if they are hosting.

One more thing: I've read that Marshall did not look great yesterday. What was the story?
I think if Marshall wins out and goes undefeated they EASILY get it over a one loss ECU. Marshall will pass ECU in the polls weeks before the final poll and eventual Comittee selection process. In fact IF Marshall remains unbeaten and is one of only a few to not have a loss Marshall will be talked about for the playoff. Nothing serious as I doubt any of us will ever see a playoff spot as long as it's only 4 schools but media talking heads will continue to mention an undefeated team and with that will come the common... "Well they won't make the playoff but they should go to the bowl game" etc etc etc...

Hype and media drive everything from the Hesiman to the Playoff Selection Comittee to your avg fan watching a game.

13-0 will be the ticket.

The bad thing for Marshall is Oliver Luck having a say. That's terrible for Marshall 100% terrible.
Also, playing crappy & still winning builds character. I think we have a good showing at home in against UCONN on ESPN 2. We just need a couple blowouts to help us surge.

We have 3 Thursday night Primetime games left. Those will help IMO if we can have good games.

if we put up massive points against UConn and maybe 2-3 teams lose from the 15-8 range, I think we can move to 13. With this week being a bye week we might gain 1 generous spot if the chaos continues. The only reason we are even climbing up so fast is because of everyone losing games ahead of us.

Good for you guys, we didn't get that kind of treatment last year (neither did Louisville for that matter), but that could have been a factor of us having lots of close games on ESPN.

One thing is the amount of teams in front of us that keep losing each week. It's unprecedented.

This is helping you guys a lot in the rankings, it took 6 weeks for UCF to jump Louisville despite beating them at home on Homecoming, and having better wins/losses than they did. There is a certain 'stickiness' to the polls, but when things are going all chaotic like this year, it allows teams like ECU to move up quickly. It reminds me of 2007 where like 8 teams held the #2 spot throughout the season because as teams kept losing, pollsters just kept promoting the teams behind them.

Keep it up, and don't slip up against teams you think you should beat, because I want you guys riding high when we bring you down in greenville. 05-stirthepot

How on earth could ECU move up for beating USF by so little. I mean after all, most of the AAC fans have stated that we suck. Please explain. 07-coffee3

I thought USF was well coached, had a good game plan, and they have good athletes. I thought Carden's bobbled snap on the first drive killed the momentum early and ECU didn't get it back until 3rd qtr. WT will have them at the top of the league in the next two years or so.

Maybe not, but I feel like we're a better team than Notre Dame. Outside of FSU and the SEC West, I'm sure who is unbeatable.

This is very true, and seems to be more true each year.

It would certainly make the AAC look powerful to have two different Top 10 teams in back to back years.

RE: ECU is 16th in Coaches Poll at Halfway Mark
There is a ton of parity in this league. Anyone can beat anyone on a given sat or Thursday. We have looked good at times and have pulled out some wins and at times dominated some teams but we have had 2 hard fought wins jn conference so far and I expect nothing less the rest of the way. I think what helped ucf last year was having to play so many close games and they had to fight through adversity all year. If we do represent our league at the end of the year we will know that we have been tested and prepared for whoever we might face.
