An EXCELLENT example to consider.

The issue with chrome pants (and many other colors) is that it is impossible to really match the helmet. It can be real close, but it won't look the same color simply because of the difference in a helmet and fabric.

But, if you move the color down to the pants, the distance between the helmet and pants tend to remove the slight color variation from the mind. Now the pants and the helmets look like they match, but you put the same colors on the jersey and the helmet, and the slightest color mismatch brings out the high school in your uniform.

The other advantage is helmet to jersey contrast. The helmet starts to act just like those orange flags flown on bicycles and dune buggies. It makes players in motion easier to find, and gives a QB a better target. The qb has a jersey color clearly denoting the body of the receiver while getting the added advantage of that helmet color acting to make the receiver more visible while moving.

Someday, all teams will dress according to these rules and I will be a very rich man. :)

I'm thinking a slightly graduated ombré blue pant, with silver claw marks of space age material appliqued around the hip buttocks area.

The only schools that have to adapted 'new ideas' that I know of are Alabama, Michigan, and Texas, being a stick in the mud is not helping 2/3 rds of the 'purists'

If I were in charge of football uniforms, they would be similar to the conservative Syracuse home uniforms worn on TV Saturday. Dark blue jerseys and pants with medium gray (not silver or chrome) helmets. No stripes anywhere. The road uniforms would be the same except reversed colors (gray uniform with blue helmets). Such uniforms would be distinctively different in this age when most non-elite schools, like us, are trying too hard (not to mention neglecting tradition and brand strength).

On a side note, those who are trying to replace gray with black and/or white, had better watch out. Orange has reared its head again as a second color in Memphis merchandise currently being sold at Kroger.

Id like a gray uniform to wear sometimes. No stripes is boring doe.
