I agree. Toledo is clearly in the driver's seat, and unless NIU knocks them off, they're two up on us and the Chips. I think Toledo beats NIU and goes on to win the West, and the MACC. Toledo may not run the table in the MAC, but I don't see them losing twice.
CMU will probably win 8-9 games, maybe even 10 if they win their bowl game. Here would be my bigger question to Chip fans, though: you've obviously gone all-out, literally, the win the MAC this year. If you don't, where do you go from here?
Rawls and Titus Davis will be gone after this season. They have obviously struggled without either/or/both so far this season.
Look around this division, and you see...
- A Toledo so loaded they're winning with backups at key positions and isn't going anywhere anytime soon
- A young NIU that can only be expected to improve over the next couple of years
- A WMU that, if nothing else, has shown it is on the rise, with another strong recruiting class coming in
- A Ball State that may be struggling now, but has a proven coach and may have found its QB of the future
- An EMU that, though it is only one win, is showing potential signs of life with Creighton
In my opinion, CMU's decision to reinstate Rawls was penny-wise and pound-foolish. It may help them in the short-term, but I don't think it will bring them the MAC title they clearly desire. In the long-term, it almost certainly hurts their image. Without at least winning the West even once in five seasons, the Chips would be stuck between a rock and a hard place with a decent, but not great, coach.
