Agony of defeat
To me, the best sporting events are the ones you hang on each and every play. There have times in which I could not sleep after a Tigers win or loss if it was an emotional game (especially in basketball). I can't remember the last time the football program has given me this type of emotion. Yes we lost. Yes I would have preferred a win. But this Tigers team is special to me in the fact that they have returned a renewed interest in football again. They are young and still learning to win. So before you start bashing them (or me for being optimistic), ask yourself the last time a mid season Memphis Tigers football game meant anything in the big picture of conference play. I am in agony and will not sleep much, but I will live. As always, I am proud to be a Tiger and we will bounce back next week.

RE: Agony of defeat
These are a different breed of Tiger. They are a year away from being very good and, as a bonus, they'll win 7 or 8 games this year and play in a bowl game.

Next game is in two weeks......

Man, it's just fun to have a competitive team. I'm as upset as anyone about the way we played but these guys are headed somewhere and I'm glad to be following it.

I really enjoyed Reggis Ball's hit that got a loud roar from the crowd.

You've said exactly what I was thinking. This team has made it fun to watch Tiger FB again, and for that, I'm grateful. The loss stings, and from the tweets I've seen, the team is experiencing the anguish. I feel for the guys, they've done good and I'll keep cheering for them 'cause I'm a Tiger also. g'nite folks.

With our improved TV exposure, I'm glad all of America ain't watching the team we fielded a couple years ago. We looked competitive. We looked like we belonged on the field. In fact, we were in position to win late in the game, in spite of 5 turnovers.

Why? We lost the game because Houson made plays and we did not. Our last drives with great field position ended with receivers who couldn't hold onto the ball and then the final interception. Paxton did not have a good game but did make some good plays to keep us in the game.

Ward, who we recruited, was too quick and fast in several series that put them ahead.

The refs made the right calls down the stretch and even gave coach JF the opportunity to withdraw a TO by telling him the fumble ad already been confirmed by an auto review. The view they had clearly showed the ball loose before he hit the ground. And knowing the rules about the clock helps the average fan from needless complaints.

There are missed calls in every game but overall I thought they did a pretty good and more important fair job.

Another 10k would have created a home field advantage. As it was, I don't think the crowd was able to generate and maintain much energy.

The poor play by the Tigers also took the crowd out of the game several times.....

All in all I'd say it was just a weird game all the way around.

Yeah the loss hurt. We made mistakes and we will learn from this players and coaches.
Bye week to prepare and go 4 and 3 with five more to go.

We had three stops and three possessions to win that game. And if we had made that early field goal, all we would have needed was a late field goal to win.
