First, I was critical of the coaching staff when we took our header down the steps last season. And yeah, I was told by some of the same people that are critical of the coaching staff, that I was being unrealistic in my expectations.
But still...
Opinions change. That's life. Just about every coach, when they come in, has high hopes and dreams attached to them. People want to think the best about the new coach. The question, for every coach, is whether or not the product they put on the field will support those high hopes or dash them.
People change their minds. That's life. People who were enamored with Tommy Tuberville at the start, who thought this was a great hire, now are asking the question... AFTER THE THIRD STRAIGHT BLOWOUT LOSS...whether or not he's the right guy to be coaching this team. (I could well throw in the trouncing we took at Charlotte to make it the fourth blow-out loss in six games...) It's a fair question.
And, FWIW, after watching Dantonio and Kelly bolt and realizing that all a Head Coach is, is a guy doing his job...I am more inclined to be critical. Coaches are not gods. They're not even role models. THEY ARE JUST A GUY, GETTING PAID TO DO A JOB. If Tommy was winning, then (judging by his past history at Ole Miss) he'd likely be putting his name out there for another major program. And we'd be told that we just have to "understand." So, get over it already.
The only relevant question is: "Is Tommy Tuberville doing a satisfactory job for what he is being paid?" If the answer is "YES," then well and good. If the answer is "NO," then we have an issue.
According to Jim Kelly on the radio broadcast today ( halfway thru the 3rd quarter ), Tubberville had said early in the year that he knew that this group of defensive players was neither strong enough nor fast enough to compete this year and that the freshman group, redshirting group and group coming in next year will give much needed strength and speed to this team.
Really? What I heard Tubs say was we were faster and deeper this year.

What's your point? I say good for them. If not for the defense they'd have been right. I'm not a fan of Eddie Gran learning on the job here and he continues to make some questionable decisions, but I have no problem with how things are running on that side of the ball this year and he should be commended. Hughes has no excuse. Tuberville has no excuse for his choice of hire and lack of oversight.

If you listened to the coaches show Thursday night, he eluded to the same thing. They didn't want to burn red shirts where the kids were not yet experienced or strong enough yet.

What annoys me more than anything is the hardcore fans on all the Bearcat forums bailing on the team and searching for someone to stick the blame on. UC's lacks size and talent on the defensive line and the early schedule included four top 50 level team. Maybe people were shocked that Memphis is actually good? The next three games are against teams way outside the top 75, lets see how UC's talent stacks up against this group. I am still expecting a 7-5 level season or maybe even better.
I think what stings, top 50 level or not, a mediocre D gets us a win against a mediocre miami and we stick around with a top 30 osu. 7-5 is no longer acceptable here. However, I am not confident we win 2 more, let alone 6-7.

RE: UC/Miami (FL) Game Thread.
what sucks is, this was the year to beat OSU. Many of the UC teams in the past 8 years wins that game in Columbus. And Miami? Many UC teams in the past 8 years SMOKES that team. We just can't seem to catch a break. These would have been two huge name wins. Sure, the actual teams aren't very good this year (OSU/Miami) but they would have been nice scalps for UC. And we get on stage for this and find out our team is junk. It's just unreal.

If Tubs knew of the problems on D were there no JUCO's available as a stop gap? Perhaps not.

Part of the problem was, they did recruit jucos -he said they felt like they didn't have enough experience and decided to red shirt them also.
