Also, I don't blame the guy or his family for lying to get into the US. If you were in his shoes or his family's shoes, and you thought the best course of action was to get into the US, wouldn't you do the same? I know I wouldn't just sit there and give up. Oddly enough, he probably had a better chance at surviving had he stayed back home.
He was coming here regardless of the infection - he had a chance to see his son (now in college) who he hadn't seen since the child was a toddler, plus he had reconciled with the mother. As I've stated elsewhere, I am now of the opinion that he acted in good faith, albeit bad judgement.

That being the case, then it's all the more reason to have firm restrictions of travel set in place.

The biggest reasons for a travel ban are the nature of infectious disease - exponential growth. By all accounts, this is going to blow up West Africa - Liberia's economy is going down the toilet and this could spread to millions in the region and worldwide. This one case in Dallas ain't going to cause that, but if you have it grow to hundreds of thousands or millions in Africa, then it will spread outside the continent (i.e. more than the handful of cases that you see now).

Glen Beck is going full on fear mongering on this.
Today on his radio show, he is predicting 10,000 new cases per week and 100% martial law in a matter of months.

Thanks for the info. I haven't listened to Beck in years. Now I remember why.

I couldn't help but think " Wow, how irresponsible is it for someone to be saying stuff like this on the radio".
I realize that this could become a potential problem in America but I don't think it's wise to be saying stuff like this on the radio.
It's a self fulfilling prophesy.

Last week listening to the radio on the way home some reporter was stating that Ebola had become airborne and the CDC was on high alert. It's crap like that, from the media, that induces panic. It's why I don't watch/listed to CNN, FOXNews, MSNBC, etc anymore. I've come to find out that NOT watching the news makes for a much better existence. I'm not ignoring the world around me as I can get updates anytime on the web, but it's not just worth all the drama anymore to watch/listed to the news.

I have the opposite view. I find them as a source of entertainment.

If that's in the US, he's nuts. If that's in Africa - that's probably an absolute certainty, and (except for the martial law) it's in line with other predictions.

I'll spend time with my kids for entertainment, not some knucklehead looking for advertising dollars on TV.

I you want a view of the hubris of TV news media...
Dr. Nancy Snyderman 'deeply sorry' for breaking Ebola quarantine - NY Daily News
http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/he...-1.1973623 Wrote:Four days after she was spotted outside a New Jersey restaurant, NBC News Chief Medical Editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman issued an apology Monday for violating her Ebola quarantine.
"While under voluntary quarantine guidelines, which called for our team to avoid public contact for 21 days, members of our group violated those guidelines and understand that our quarantine is now mandatory until 21 days have passed," Snyderman said in a statement.

RE: American Ebola Patient Dies - Racism.
After this latest diagnosis....Obviously this hospital was not equipped to handle this patient. Probably used general isolation PPE. They also tubed the effin lab work. Very shoddy work.
This is on the CDC and hospital not being prepared to handle the situation.
My hospital system has 14 hospital and we have concluded only 3 will ever take one of these patients.

RE: American Ebola Patient Dies - Racism.
For perspective on the hospital in question, IMHO, it's probably in the top 75% of Dallas hospitals... there are some crappy ones here, but I don't think this is one of them (neither would I rate it as one of the top ones). Last spring, I hyper-extended my finger to the point that I could see my tendons. My wife called around to find the best rated hand surgeon that she could, and his office is at that hospital... the doctor did surgery at an off-site facility, but I visited there many times for office visits.
That hospital would probably service the SMU area - University Park, Lake Highlands, whatever the West side of White Rock Lake is called (Lakeview?), at least part of Casa Linda (though there's another hospital there now). I doubt Highland Park residents would typically go there, but it may be the closest hospital.
I would expect better work on this Ebola case from any hospital, but this one more than most.
