A tiny bit better after today. Unfortunate for Mr. Gurley.

He didn't even sniff the heisman finalists spot.

If he was in a P5 league with the same results he would have won.

Carden has less than zero chance.

It is neat (funny?) that a guy on reddit basically broke the news six months ago.

Just saw that Gurley is likely to miss multiple games. He's from a town that's just 25 minutes from ECU campus. Karma's a b!tch I guess. If Carden has a BIG day today then he could gain some ground on those in front of him. If Colt Brennan can get an invite then so can Carden. Remember, he may only need to break into the top 5 to get an all expenses paid trip to NY.

If the AAC had a championship game then Carden would be a lock to surpass 5,000 passing yards and 40 TDs by seasons end. Supposedly the schedule softens now that OOC is done so maybe he gets close to those gaudy marks regardless.

It's a given that ECU has to be fortunate enough to win every game for Carden to even have a prayer of a chance for just an invite & that's a very tall order to begin with.

This. ECU must win every game left on the schedule and Carden needs close to 5,000 yards both for an invite to NY.

It's possible given that the apparent contenders have been breaking legs or being suspended seemingly every other week.

Don't know about Carden's odds, but Keenum wasn't invited with a 13-1 record, over 5,600 yds passing, and 51 TDs (48 pass, 3 rush) against 5 int.

Carden's odds increase considerably by winning the conference championship game. Apparently that's crucial.

After today's game I would say there is a 5% chance he could be invited. Today's game did not help the cause. If he recovers and goes back to video game numbers it could be possible, but still unlikely.

none

g5 schools aren't part of the mix...how come you don't get this? The Heisman is the best player from a handful of p5 schools that are competing for a national title. It's not the best player in college football.

While that is most likely the case, there is the possibility of a voter revolt. This is one tradition that far pre-dates the current arrangement. Let's not pronounce it completely compromised just yet.

ESPN announcers are fcking in love with Carden. Even tonight they fawned over him despite a less then stellar performance.

No he wouldn't. Look, I loved Bortles as much as the next guy, but there were other p5 QB's who had significantly better years statistically speaking

Short of being a severe statistical outlier or the leader of a NC team, you need a year or more of being mentioned prior to your first visit to make it to New York. Not saying it's impossible, just unlikely.

RE: What are the odds Carden gets an invite to NY for the Heisman?
Despite a less than stellar performance against USF, Carden moved up 2 spots from #9 to #7 in USA Today's Heisman Watch list. Probably moved up only because others have been falling off the list every week for various reasons (just like ECU in the polls).

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca.../17289221/

7. QB Shane Carden, ECU (Last week's ranking: No. 9)

Carden and ECU had just enough in the tank to get past upset-minded South Florida, though just-good-enough performances won't lift Carden higher on the Heisman list or continue ECU's path for a major bowl. The production has been there, however, and Carden and this offense should regain top-notch form against some of the American's weakest teams.

Judging by past winners I'm not sure if he has questionable enough judgement to be picked. If he were involved in a few scandals his stock would probably rise.
