Getting super excited about the season.

Glad you all decided to get your tickets despite initial dissatisfaction with the move.

I'll be getting in with my student ID, as always...as far as I'm concerned, that's a $250 season ticket from my student fees.

Got them for one reason and one reason only, it is something my father and I have done together for 30+ years, Dad isn't getting any younger and I going to keep the tradition going. If it were just me I wouldn't have gotten them.

I will call your dad a true fan, no less, and you a true son, no more. And I do hope the seating arrangement works. Maybe they will do enough this season and offer enough for next season to make it more than tradition.

Lol, I have gone to hundreds of ETSU basketball games, home, road, conference and NCAA tournaments and I have watched every minute of every game I have been to, up by 30 or down by 50 (VCU) didn't leave the arena till the horn sounded, but sure I am not a true fan, gotcha.

I'm just messing with you. It's easy. I really am glad to hear you're coming around, though.

EDIT: And that really was a tough loss to sit through with VCU. The horn was mercy. You and your dad - we all - as fans deserve something to help forget that with this season. Unlikely, but it would be nice to see a competitive game away this year.

RE: Tickets
I will say this. Most of you know that I like the dome better than freedom hall and that I think the prices are too high for freedom hall. That won't change, and the increased price forced me to lower my overall donation to the program from what I would have otherwise given. I did purchase tickets this year, am happy with my seats, and really appreciated their approach to this seating process.

I just hope the students come. I always worry how we always seem to put their interests last.

RE: Tickets
They really really need to do something about the seats, I counted at least 4 with duct tape. ( I will be happy to go back and take pictures if someone wants to claim I am making that up). They certainly were trying hard, Scott and the other guy had the full court press on, they do seem to want to do the right thing I am just not sure they are. Since we paid more money we ended up with okay seats, there was a mix up in that we picked out our 3 seats, he put blue tape on them we went out to get them and then were told sorry those seats were taken, someone had ordered them over the phone, we had to move down a row so not a huge deal but slightly annoying. BTW not making that up either, feel free to ask Scott Carter if there wasn't a mix up with Rodney Shaw's seats, he even made the joke it was his fault so feel free to cuss him for it.

So reluctantly, you didn't hate the entire process? The people involved with athletics actually seem to care, which is different that it has been. Just take a minute to talk to Scott next time you get a chance (not you Rod, everyone that hasn't). I think you all will be impressed.

Didn't hate the process, hate Freedom Hall, detest the coach and think it is crazy they raised the prices THAT much for the product they have been putting on the floor in that crappy venue. So no I wouldn't have bought season tickets if not for my father.

Scott is a very nice guy, he came by the office a couple of weeks ago and talked with us for a while and again today while getting seats picked out and then fixing the error. He wished me my luck with knee and said he would pray for me and I believed him and it was a nice gesture. My knee is another reason I preferred the Dome we had zero steps to get to our seats, we ended up two rows down from the concourse (the first seats we picked were one step down) without a hand rail I would have been be hesitate to go much lower then that.

Unfortunately, they are not bringing the scoreboard. They will have the corner scoreboards like last year and the LED boards on the court

Good luck with the knee. I had a hip replaced in June, which improved things, but I may still need a cane since there are no hand rails. Stadiums have become an adventure. And it's worse for football.

I wouldn't think Freedom Hall's ceiling couldn't support our scoreboard, also it couldn't be retracted into the ceiling and would hang down and be in the way for other events.

Will those scoreboards even work this year? It seemed like last year they were always burned out and half working.
Hopefully they'll redo the roof at Freedom after basketball season and make it to where it'll hold the scoreboard.
Things like that are all the more reason the city, ETSU, and business owners should WANT a new arena/convention center away from Science Hill, close to downtown but off ETSU's campus. If it won't hold that junky ass outdated scoreboard ETSU currently has, how will it hold modern concert rigging for even mid level arena acts, much less the state of the art videoboard style screens that have endless possibilities as far as showing in game stats, replays, etc... You know, part of the things that enhances the in game experience and helps put rear ends in those God awful uncomfortable seats they haven't replaced.
I hope it all works this year, I really do. But I really believe it's just going to further showcase the need not just for Johnson City, but the region as a whole for a new special events center.

RE: Tickets
I think the scoreboard in the dome is just fine, not sure why it "junky" or outdated but one thing it is is huge, I remember there was some concern if the roof in the dome could support it and the new lighting rig. There is now way it would fit where the current Freedom Hall scoreboard is and would not be able to be retracted into the ceiling for concerts etc. Plus there might be an issue of how low it hangs.

RE: Tickets
It was outdated when they got it a decade ago. And it would fit if the roof would support it.
Take a look at the modern boards we're seeing put in arenas these days. It all goes back to what everyone harps on about fan amenities, in game experience, etc...

RE: Tickets
It gives me the score. Supposedly it tells me who is in the game and how many points they have (Whoever ran it the Dome was lousy at keeping up with subs). It tells me how much time is left in the game, that is about all I ask for from a scoreboard. It hangs directly over the court so I don't have to look to one side or the other like in the past. So like I said I was happy with it.

Thats because you dont know any different. Its like people who never had a real steak. They go to Shoneys and Golden Corral for steak night and think its awesome, having never had Mortons, Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, Del Frisco's, or pick your steak place in Chicago or Ft. Worth.
Yes, id much rather have screens that do replays, scoring updates, even social media interactions. You may not want more, youre going to be there regardless of the on/off court product, but there are those who want more for their entertainment dollar when they go to live events now. Even at ETSU.

I don't know, Buclover.

The last time I was in Miami, I went to a Heat game. There was not a single second that they did not try to fill with thunderous music, flashing lights and fevered announcing. You could barely think about the game in the distraction, let alone talk to your seat mate about it.

It made me long for the old Boston Garden, when all you had to worry about was some cheesy ball park organ.

If basketball is what you come for, you can definitely take all the extras too far.

Making assumptions there aren't you? I might have lived in East Tennessee all my life but the doesn't mean I haven't been anywhere else.

All the improvements ETSU needs done to the Dome and or Freedom Hall replacing the Scoreboard (if they can make it work at Freedom Hall) is way way down on the list.

If they build a new arena then sure I am all for putting in really nice stuff but if they aren't sure ETSU can move it's junky and outdated current scoreboard (as you called it) over do you really think Freedom Hall could hold one like you are talking about without major work?

I go to the ball game to, you know, watch the game and talk to my father and cousin about the game, that is kind of the point, the entertainment I paid for.
