RE: Tickets
I go to the game to enjoy a nice steak, but concessions always lets me down. I hear the Bulls don't have that problem.

....I just want a better scoreboard than the McDonald's double cheeseburger type of scoreboards currently at FH, however it happens. Sooner, not later.

I think most fans are happy with fresh popcorn and cold soft drinks. ETSU has generally struggled providing that.

Whatever they need to do, they've had a year of planning to get it done and didn't. Kind of annoying. I think we're all reasonable enough here to agree that there should be the basic expectation of working scoreboards.
And while I don't have the belief that ETSU should have an NBA level arena, I do think it's become cost effective to have better amenities than stale popcorn, warm soda and cold pizza.

RE: Tickets
Concessions suck, that's for sure - and surely that would be an easy fix, an immediate opportunity to increase fan satisfaction and, heck, even make a few extra bucks.

There will be no palatable excuse to be stuck with the scoreboards in existence at FH, as they are already a sorry excuse of a scoreboard.

It all goes back to things we've talked about, as well as what we're seeing in national trends of college sports attendance. People want more for their dollars.
Does Freedom Hall have Wifi? If not, why not? While it's city owned, the schools use it for various things. So why not find a federal grant to outfit that joint with wifi that fans can also use while in the building and not just schools? With the trend of public schools leaning towards BYOT/BYOD (I'm sure the Tri-Cities is about 5-10 years away from that), why not get that going?
And who knows, perhaps all these things being discussed here are being noted and the city and schools will all work together to make better concessions, scoreboards, in house wifi and a decent place to go to the bathroom that doesn't have long lines.
It'll all be tough, I think you've seen first hand how resistant to change people up there are.

RE: Tickets
A signature meal or snack is always a good thing. Partner with local BBQ restaurants, serve good appetizers, a tray where I can sit it in my lap, and a cup holder, and I'll come in before the men's game and watch the women play if it's a doubleheader. Gotta give me a reason, and feeding me quality food is a start. Otherwise my dinner dollars go elsewhere. Make it an event, not just a game.

The women are separate now. They play exclusively at Brooks.

I still like that tray idea, and the point stands that a well fed fan is likely to stick around longer. I would definitely plan to get my meals at the game with that kind of vendor offering available. As is, I know to eat beforehand or suffer the stale popcorn and warm drinks.

I sure hope they have considered concessions. It's got to be one of the easiest fixes right now, immediate impact.

Will concessions still have to be contracted out with the on-campus dining service? I hope not.

RE: Tickets
What about a featured high school game before games on occasion? It would be nice way to showcase some of the local talent. It could also become a great recruiting tool. Bring in teams from Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, and possibly Memphis, to play some of our local teams. Most of these would probably have to be weekend games.

They shouldn't be. It's not on campus but who knows how the language is written. The problem is I don't remember the food at Freedom Hall being any better.

As for the high school game idea, I'll try to be tactful and say that's probably not the best approach to couple a Division I basketball game with high school basketball. The focus probably should stick to amenities.

Thought it might put more fans in the seats. Again, if you want to just have a game that's fine, but an event draws. Other than the obvious, good team, quality opponent, good food, nice venue, what would you folks suggest to make ETSU games standout? Why are many so reluctant to try new things. If they don't work, they don't work. But for goodness sake, try some different things.

RE: Tickets
My hope is that last year's concessions at FH were simply makeshift and this year's will be quality driven.

Better halftime shows would be another immediate improvement in the direction of an "event" without distracting from the legitimate game. Cheerleading can continue to put more effort into complementing the game. When they give out t-shirts, etc, during timeouts, they could do a much better job getting around and fairly distributing. Bucky could be more dynamic and work with the cheerleaders on certain cheers. Less ridiculous contests. Traditional in-game/halftime promotions that we just currently don't do well. I end up staring at my phone a lot in boredom...

One more thing - better pep band (maybe football will help in time) and quit playing the same three-four year old songs at every single game, whether it's the band or the loudspeakers.

RE: Tickets
I think the pep band will be improved this year, didn't we hire someone for that? Last year during the first Freedom Hall game the Science Hill band did a much better job than ours usually does. However, it was almost too loud. I know a couple of people who did not go to the last two games at FH because the sound level was too much for them during the first game. Ironic, given that the complaint in the dome is that it is not loud enough. I guess you can't make everyone happy.

I think that about half of the in-game promotions were good, and some of them were terrible. I don't remember any done during the games at Freedom Hall last year- maybe I just forgot. Much of it depends on the staff member that is on the microphone, last year was an improvement over the couple years before that. At the end of the day, we need to keep our sponsors happy. If a silly promotion is what the sponsors like, I have no problem with it.

The biggest challenge that they will have, in my opinion, is to get the upper deck somewhat involved. As i have said before, you fee like you are in a different venue from up there. If Bucky simply walks the middle concourse and below as he did last year, that is not going to work well.

I have nothing nice to say about the cheerleaders and especially the dance team, so I will leave that alone.

My suspicions are that a high school game double header probably violates NCAA recruiting rules also.

Does anyone know how season ticket sales went this year? Up, down, the same?
