perhaps, but you are not the first to make that claim and be proven wrong. It has become an annual thing.

Why not? The Lady Raiders proved last year that they are the best program in the conference. They won the league by two games in a 16 game schedule. While they graduated their best player (What top team other than W.Ky DIDN'T graduate their best player?), they return a ton of depth along with two key transfers. (Cheyenne Parker led the nation in blocked shots, was 3rd in rebounding and 5th in double-doubles in 2012-13. Brea Edwards led the nation in scoring in JUCO in 2012-13.)

This season will be a race between MT and W.Ky. I don't think there is even a 10% chance anyone else wins the conference.

Those 3 losses to MT last season were tough. Blazers led in the 2nd half of the first 2 games, and were only down 2 late in the C-USA tourney game.

MT wins the conference again this year.

We've got a 6'5" transfer who was an all-American at her old uni. She'll be first team all conference most likely and not even on this list yet.

And, as usual, WKU will lose to the Blue Raiders at least 2 times.

I wish we actually played twice during the regular season. At least the conference moved the games so they're not literally at the same time. Still I find it dumb.

The Lady Monarchs have a lot to prove this year. It's year 5 for Karen Barefoot.

Barefoot didn't do herself any favors with scheduling. ODU faces Duke, VaTech, VCU, Louisville and Cal in OOC play. That is arguably the toughest set of opponents within C-USA. It certainly is a far tougher schedule than those of W.Ky, UTEP or Southern Miss. Coming from a MT fan and proponent of conference teams upping their out of conference SOS, I am impressed.

Actually, it's a lighter schedule than what long time Lady Monarchs fans are used to. Under Wendy Larry, ODU generally only played ACC, SEC, and top teams OOC home & home, including a very longtime series with Tennessee, if anything this is more of a return to normal. The question is, can Barefoot get ODU back to a top 25 program. The jury is out.

Thing is, ODU used to schedule way harder than that during their last stretch of national prominence in the 90s. Tennessee was a yearly opponent, they played Texas, Stanford, N.C. State, Purdue, Rutgers, all manners of national-level opponents. But they fell pretty hard from that.

RE: Women's Basketball Preseason Team & Picks
I get that ODU USED to play top-level competition. So did W. Ky and La Tech. But that was years ago when all three programs were among the top programs in the country, back before the likes of Louisville, UK or Baylor even knew women played basketball.

But today, those three programs are trying to climb back into just the top-25. And a related result of falling out of the top-25 ranks was a fall in OOC scheduling. I'm glad to see ODU pick up their scheduling. My hope is that ODU, La Tech and W. Ky can all make runs at the top-25 again. I would love to see C-USA annually place multiple teams in the top-25 and in the NCAA tournament. While our conference may never hold a national championship, our teams can certainly be "relevant" once again.

Don't say we "may never hold" one. This year's the year.
