ECU players cited for firing BB guns in Greenville causing Elementary School Lockdown
I think the most troubling comment is "All three are freshman for the ECU pirate football team. They may face disciplinary action from Coach Ruffin McNeill. He talked about it briefly at practice Tuesday afternoon" Really, MAY face disciplinary action? I would not be shocked if Coach Ruff suspends them for at least the rest of the year, they will be lucky not to be kicked off the team. You can't do this type of stuff in this day and age.

Not fair to criticize Ruffin there- the thing happened at 130 and he spoke in the afternoon. Probably had very little time to know facts so just put a general speak on it then. They won't play this weekend I'm sure.

School was locked down for maybe ten minutes. Plus Ruff is pretty tough on his players they will be disciplined. A BB gun is not that big of a deal but to be shooting around town was just plain stupid. What happens to a lot of kids when they have their first freedom ever at age 18 and being a freshman in college. Should have to do community service at the school plus some extra running at practice and tougher work outs in the mornings with the strength coach and an apology to the police and school. Can't really suspend them from the team since they are redshirting anyway and practice is where you can really get on them for doing a bonehead decision.

They'll be suspended from team activities but all were redshirting anyway. My guess is they will spend a lot of time in the sand pit and conditioning with Coach C.

They're not playing anyway. Redshirting.

Not sure how I was criticizing Coach Ruffin when I clearly stated "I would not be shocked if Coach Ruff suspends them for at least the rest of the year, they will be lucky not to be kicked off the team."

As for only "Lock down for 10 minutes", I don't think any parents want to hear about the school being lock-down for a minute. Players were IDIOTS and I feel confident Coach Ruffin will handle.

You are putting words in my mouth never said "as for only" 10 minutes. I just said the school was locked down for maybe 10 minutes. Making a statement never said that was a a good thing. I agree I would never want to here about a school my child attended being in lock down. I was just adding to your post of about an elementary school in lock down and stating that they were in lock down for around ten minutes. Your post did not state how long the school was in lock down and most people assume when a school goes into lock down that it was for a long period of time. Your title should have been "Three True Freshman cited for firing BB gun in side City Limit" then in the body just state causing local elementary school to go into lock down for around ten minutes.

I guess if your a State fan though it is good to make East Carolina look as bad as possible when something happens.

I agree, what they did was really stupid. I did some dumb things as a Freshman but going around town and shooting a BB gun near a school wasn't one of them.

But don't worry Ruff will punish them, he runs a very tight ship.

I think this would be a relatively easy mistake for a kid to make. It's too bad things have gotten to the point where you can't do this without creating a major situation.

Actually had it happened in Raleigh, the kids would probably still be in jail, knowing RPD.

A good punishment is to take them to Lake Mattamuskete in Hyde County, put them out, and then make them walk back to Greenville along 264. One night on the road looking at all the green and yellow eyes looking at them from the swamp and they will never do it again. 04-cheers

Nonsense…They were not arrested and would not have been arrested in Raleigh either. They violated a City ordinance and were given citations.

I remember being 19 and getting cited for a ticket(underage drinking). Being from rural ENC I thought all(most) cops were fat and oldish. At that point in my life if I ever encountered law enforcement I would just haul a$$. When I met RPD I thought about it for a second and then thought how bad it would be if/when those guys caught up with me. They looked and had a military feel to them. I respect all law enforcement at this point in my life, but if I ever felt froggy in the state of NC it would not be with RPD.

If this had happened in Tallahassee, and there was actual property damage, I could only imagine how severe the punishment would be. [/sarcasm]

No glass houses here, they were just as stupid. It amazes me how these kids just don't get you can't do this stuff now a days. I am just glad I am not this age and have to deal with all this "sensitive subjects". I imagine the movie A Christmas Story would never be made today. My goodness the hazards of a Red Rider BB Gun. 03-wink
