NMR: Empty seats at B1G games
UofM, MSU, etc. have enlarged and enlarged their stadiums and along comes HD television, etc. etc. and students decide that maybe if the team is mediocre or the opponent is mediocre or the weather is bad...

Get your honey, a six pack, a nice television and enjoy... at home.

This is really something to watch across college football (esp. with bad weather coming) and the NFL.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. No one is mentioning price as an issue. No mention of the higher ed bubble.

What surprises me the most is that the problem is with the no-show students, not the alums or town folks.

At times it can be weather related. I assume the weather in E. Lansing Saturday night was bad. It certainly was bad in K'zoo and Traverse City.

Like October 4 there was snow observed near Traverse City.

Who wants to go to K'zoo and watch a game, even a marque matchup vs. Toledo, when it is 40 degrees and raining hard.

Rain is a pain, but when it is 40 it is miserable pain. Weather really hurts a lot of schools.

I assume folks left the MSU game because of the rain. Right?????

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving who would rather be in Mt. Pleasant rather than say Baton Rouge?

Why? People aren't joiners.

Read Putnam's "Bowling Alone". Then amplify his conclusions for a generation that grew up w/ the internet, facebook, twitter, etc. And who have been oversaturated with sports and entertainment.

MSU AD whining like its every students job and responsibility to go to the game and spend every second there despite it being a blow-out and freezing cold. Students caught leaving will be expelled from the University and all Michigan residents must support the team, throw away their EMU, WMU, CMU apparel and buy Wolverine or preferably Spartan Gear in this case at Wal-Mart. I'm still amazed at the cult-like mentality of Ohio and Michigan residents.

Students get in for free or discounted rates. The other fans pay the full price, which was $80 when Miami played at Michigan this year. At $80 per seat, you are more likely to stay till the (bitter?) end.

Students today have far more entertainment options than students in the past, if the weather is bad maybe sitting in BW's to watch the rest of the game is a superior option even for a big football fan, plus the cell phones will probably work better there.

I remember watching EMU football games decades ago when I had no other good options (no ESPN, no...). 03-lmfao
