According to "Billy Bobby", he spent his formative years in Eastern NC.

NBPirate, You're right, I know very little about NC geography or roads, and why would I? I've never admitted to growing up in North Carolina! I can't believe i have to do this but here goes....I was born and raised in Iowa, moved as a kid to SW Texas. Due to being in the military I've lived in many different places and I've attended many different schools. When I lived in Greenville, I lived in Pirates Place...before that briefly at a place called pirate cove i think (can't remember it's been awhile) Bought a very small house in Ayden that I briefly lived in, moved, but I still own the home in Ayden and rent it out. No longer live in the area, but still a property owner there and AM AN ECU FAN despite what anyone says. I have some family members who live in Chapel Hill. (Yes, their tar heels) Please quiz me all you want. If I wanted to make up stuff about geography I'd simply get a map. Please ask me pertinent questions that a guy not from Greenville originally--but a few years of college--SHOULD know in your opinion about ECU/Greenville etc. I'm up for the challenge and sick of this garbage.

If they do not make the access bowl then their schedule was a catastrophic failure.

Most of what is being talked about with Marshall is how they are not going to be considered.

I don't agree. The only reason they're even in the discussion at all is their schedule. If it fails to get them there, they're in the same spot they would have been playing a real schedule. Worth a shot to get yourself in the clubhouse at 12-0 IMO

The reason they have been in discussion is because most knew they would be really good, and have a crappy enough schedule that going undefeated is a good possibility.

Their OOC SOS is only part of the problem. Cusa itself is a lower level conference, so Marshall already needed to beef its schedule up to overcome their conference SOS.

If the committee does what everyone has been anticipating, which is to put a very strong emphasis on SOS, then that is very good news for our conference. That would mean about 6 teams from the AAC would would be competing with maybe two from the MWC, and no one else, for the access bowl slot, year after year.

These are Massey Composite Ratings.

ECU's conference SOS is really the same as Marshall's. Tulsa, UCONN, SMU, Tulane, USF are a combined 6-23 (3 FCS wins, 3 conference wins versus each other) and none of them have won a single FBS game OOC. These 5 teams are tanking ECU's SOS right now.

Cincy, Temple, UCF are 9-6 with 4 FBS OOC wins against #44 BYU (UCF), #80 Toledo (Cinci), #100 @Vanderbilt (Temple), and #122 Miami-OH (Cinci). Average margin of victory is 17 points. Average ranking of top 4 teams beaten is 86.5.

Marshall's opponent's conference schedule has 8 FBS OOC wins against #78 Bowling Green (WKU), #84 @Navy (WKU), #98 Hawaii (Rice), #114 @Army (Rice), #116 Tulsa (FAU), #119 Troy (UAB), #120 EMU (ODU), #125 App State (USM). Average margin of victory is 20.3 points. Average ranking of top 4 teams beaten is 93.5. Average margin of victory for top 4 teams beaten is 18 points.

-ECU's toughest conference games are #52 UCF, #62 @Temple, #85 @Cinci. #108 @South Florida. Average ranking is 76.75

-Marshall's toughest conference games are #66 @UAB. #75 Rice, #77 MTSU, #81 WKU. Average ranking is 74.75.

-ECU's AAC opponents still have OOC games against #54 @PSU, #114 Army.

-Marshall's CUSA opponents still have OOC games against #37 @Arkansas, #44 BYU, #100 @Vanderbilt, #114 Army.

I still give ECU's conference schedule a slight edge since they play 3 of their 4 toughest matchups on the road. However, the 5 bottom teams in the AAC aren't doing ECU's SOS any favors. If the AAC picks up the @PSU win it will help their case; same goes for CUSA if they get the Arkansas, BYU, or Vandy wins.

edit: this is only stats and no shot at anyone, so hopefully no one takes any offense.

I think UAB, at UAB, has the best chance of beating Marshall in their remaining games. I just don't understand how you lost of FIU. W. Kentucky is not bad either and has a tiny chance of beating Marshall.

How many P5 opponents has the AAC played total 2 to 3 per member? We only have 3 wins to show for it - Vandy, UNC and VT.

By the same token, how many P5 teams could've Marshall potentially beat this year? ZERO. True, playing and losing to P5 teams may not be great but to not even schedule them is worse.

OK, you beat Vandy. BIG DEAL. Are you suggesting that MARSHALL would not do the same? They are 1-5 for pity's sake. Marshall would kill them as well as about half of the ACC, a 1/4 of the Big Ten, a couple of Big 12 suads , and a couple of PAC-12 teams as well. So would most of the better teams in the LEFTOVER-5.

Vandy has actually played a real schedule, it's called the SEC where they are 0 and 4 against. How in the H#LL can you compare who Vandy played with who Marshall played?

Marshall should schedule West Virginia every year as a rivalry game like it used to be even if you have to play at their place more often then your own. They should schedule at least 2 P5 teams every year considering how weak the CUSA is, if not 3 P5 teams.
West Virginia refuses to schedule Marshall. The Herd would love to play WVU every year! "Vandy has actually played" Charleston Southern (Wow) and they only won 21-20 and they should have lost to the tiny FCS visitor. Marshall would beat VANDY by 40 points. Hell, MT has beaten VANDY the last three times we played them!
Your argument does not hold water. But I think Temple has a pretty good team, anyway.

How in the world do you know what Marshall would do against Vandy? It won't ever happen since Marshall won't ever schedule them. Who it MT anyway and what years were those and what players from the current respective teams were on playing in those games? Score gazing doesn't translate as has been shown in various threads. It's match-ups that matter. And I do actually agree that Marshall is probably decent this year but its hard to judge.
