Glad that we still have not played the three bottom teams in the league and they will all basically be home games for us

Gstate is going to beat somebody one day. They are too close too often. We better play well because if there is one team they want to beat, we are it.

RE: SBC Sagarin rating for the weekend ending October 4, 2014
My new (renewed) argument for the week.
Last week, GS was ranked 93rd, down from 90th, after:
a) win over Appalachian State,
b) SOS+ (South Alabama win),
c) SOS- (North Carolina State loss) and
d) SOS (bye week for Georgia Tech and Savannah State)
Now comes this week.
This week, GS is ranked 73rd after:
a) win over New Mexico State (2-4)(1-1) 36-28,
b) SOS- [loss by North Carolina State (4-2)(0-2) 41-0 to Clemson],
c) SOS- [loss by Savannah State (0-5)(0-2) 14-7 to Norfolk State],
d) SOS+ [win by Georgia Tech (5-0)(2-0) 28-17 to Miami (FL)],
e) SOS+ [win by South Alabama (3-2)(2-1) 47-21 to App State] and
f) SOS- [loss by App State (1-4)(0-2) 47-21 to South Alabama].
The teams we've already played went 2-3 for the weekend, including the 41-0 blowout of NCSU, yet we climb 20 places in Sagarin. You can't explain the climb based upon the SOS of the teams we've played, that has a decreasing effect on us as compared to the teams we've played. Here is another tidbit to include with what I've already mentioned. After looking at last week's ratings and finding little sense to it, I wrote an email to Jeff Sagarin asking him to explain to me how GS could drop after a win and neutral SOS outcome. He never replied yet GS climbs by 20. I believe there is a lot more subjectivity than we've been led to think.

We drop for beating App by 20, but climb 20 places for beating NMSU by 8?

Nothing like dropping for winning. Don't care if SOS or wahtever is factored, that is just stupid.

This might be the week that any/all influence from last year's data was jettisoned.
That might explain Troy's drop from 52.13-47.51 while not even playing a game.

That makes more sense than anything I've heard or seen yet.

No it isn't. It is better than comparing records. It is better than RPI. It isn't some perfect system though, and people evidently have a difficult time dealing with its limitations and decide that it is useless.
It is not useless. It is not the definitive rank of cfb teams. It is flawed(especially with just 5 games of data), but it is just one more indicator of relative team strength.

I'm not totally against it but I wish he would publish his methodology so it can be confirmed or receive recommendations for an improved model. Granted, Sagarin gave some love to GS this week but this borders on molestation! I've got to question it when it makes no sense either way.
