RE: This week's football rankings
WRC, if your form holds, that would give us 3 more losses and a 6-6 finish. That pretty much makes this weekend a must win.

My ratings reflect how teams are at a given point in time. Rice's rating in comparison to upcoming C-USA opponents will change as more data (game results) is included. I would guess that, with the exception of Marshall, Rice will be in position to pass all future opponents.

Understood. Obviously Rice--or anybody on our schedule--has the chance to move up or down as the season progresses. My point was that thanks to ODU we basically have no wiggle room left. As it stands now, we need to win every game where we currently the higher ranked team. For every loss to a team currently ranked below us, we will need to beat a team currently ranked above us.

While I know the transitive property does not apply to football, given that Army lost to Yale, this game is an absolute must-win.

Obviously no transitive property. But rankings do give an idea of who SHOULD win. This is one we should win, and if we don't then we are going to have to win at least one of those that we SHOULD NOT win.

Well, they haven't lost. Also beat Lehigh and Cornell, for whatever that's worth

Yale's QB was originally at Clemson before transferring to Yale, so it would seem they have a decent signal caller.

That's an interesting drive chart. Yale started the game:
3 and out
3 and out
pick 6
Giving Lehigh that lead. Then they go:
TD
TD
TD
FG
FG
TD
TD
TD
TD
TD
Yale is #20 on Massey's FCS Composite. Harvard's #22, so that game could be a good one this year.

Agree, this would be a tough loss to swallow because they lost to Yale. Not sure which would be worse for the Rice football brand - losing at home to Old Dominion in their first year of FBS, or to the Army team that lost to Yale.
However, unlike the ODU game, we have both Covington and Taylor for Army. Also, Army might not be able to expose our secondary as often as OD did with Heinicke. Guys like Baker and Finner are better suited to take on offenses like Army's. Having Covington in the middle and healthy is huge playing vs a triple option offense. JT and DJ could have monster games, much like they had vs Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. Bailiff has not been bad at defending the triple option...even the loss to Nichols St wasn't the defense's fault.

that is easy. Army.
ODU has never been in danger of losing to Yale

RE: This week's football rankings
Well, lessee...
Sagarin (for example) has Army rated 126, Yale 134, and ODU 144. So it's actually a question of degree of embarrassment, but these rankings suggest a loss to ODU is worse. I happen to agree with that.
Then there's the odds. Rice was favored over ODU, but is currently - as of this afternoon, anyway - the underdog to Army.
