Bureau Of Land Management Employees Charged Taxpayers $799,000 For “Gift Cards”

From those fun folks who brought us the Bundy Ranch saga, they need you to pay for their personal fun…Another example of our federal government working so well.

Quote: Wildfire management employees at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) used government charge cards to by $799,000 worth of gift cards from vendors such as REI, American Express, FredMeyer and Visa, according to a report released Sept. 30 by the Interior Department’s Office of the Inspector General.

When investigators requested supporting documentation such as purchase orders, receipts, and authorizing signatures, BLM staff claimed that they were “missing,” according to the report.

The inspector general describes widespread misuse of government-issued charge cards at the agency, making the “purchase card program susceptible to fraud, waste, and abuse.”

You can bet that this is a drop in the bucket of the amount of waste and fraud that bureaucrats are responsible for annually. If either gang had any balls they would be doing everything in their power to eliminate wasteful government spending and fraud.

Or, you know, we could look for evidence?

I'm not talking about this $800k, I'm talking about the vague claims that this is only the tip of the iceburg.

Your first list is about half full of research that you might not find value in, but there is a clear value to, and federal government support of the arts as laid out in the constitution.

But it is. One need go no further than the idea of auditing the DOD. $800K, wouldn't even buy a new set of battle lanterns for a US ship.
