If ECU loses its free game in my opinion.

Perception will matter but 7 is right on all the other stuff. Panic mode can wait til we see what happens. NIU and toledo are the best in the conference and NIU is arguably the 2nd best choice for an access bowl behind ECU at the moment.
And if you (not you, you in general) end up bitching about NIU's season as one of the 5 youngest teams in the country ending up "only 12-1" and they miss out on an Access Bowl, then you (again, not you) are still an idiot.

That's my point, people here are being completely bogus.

I came in thinking 8-4 or 9-3 and as long as NIU is in the west race I would be happy. I still think that's obviously the case. With adjusted expectations id be disappointed with 4 losses and probably 3 unless it's in the Mac title game.

If I ***** if NIU goes 12-1 please ban me. I may complain about in game moments but the season in general would be ridiculous.

It's just crazy to think with the injuries NIU has had to important players the fact they're 2-1 on the road, and teams like ball state looking bad and toledo really looking like the only comparable team in the conference with said issues that NIU play as well as it has.

People should be happy.

Complaints and rational objections are fine. Making it seem like it's panic time seems absurd.

I wonder if Alabama fans are calling for Saban's head right now. I bet at least some are. I bet they are that unreasonable.

On a side note the only 2 schools on this list that Carey would go to and is not under qualified for are IU and ISU.

Man, I should really just not read these threads then. Nobody will ever be happy. It's all for naught! I'm having an existential crisis!

Bingo! I added Michigan so everyone would read the sarcasm into it, but I guess not.

04-cheers I should have replied to a different post to make it more obvious I was being sarcastic. My point was that no team can stay at the top every year. And 7 was responding to someone who said they don't want to see NIU go backwards and only have 7 or 8 win seasons. That is ridiculous. Every team has bad years or stretches of years in a row. Even Alabama (who we beat in 2003 when they only won 3 or 4 games). In the MAC, where are the teams that dominated for several years before NIU's recent run? They all lost players and coaches and it is impossible to be the best every year. The last 4 (actually 14) years have been great, but we have struggled at some point each year and criticized the coaches every game.

I bet there are some A&M fans calling for Sumlin's head as well, just as there are some Oklahoma fans calling for Stoops' head. Every fan base has a group of fans that want to fire the coach after every loss.

Winning is hard. Turnover is constant, you face coaches that know what you're doing and how to stop or slow it down every year, meaning there will be close games where one call or mistake can cost you. You cannot and will not blow everybody out.

Exactly. To expect NIU to get double-digit wins every single year is too high of an expectation for me. Would I like it? Absolutely. Is it necessary? Not really.

The goal every year for NIU should be to compete for the MAC Championship. Anything else achieved on top of that is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

Viable teams for the Group of 5 spot right now: Colorado St, Northern Illinois, Marshall, ECU, Temple and Memphis. Not a deep pool.

first, when you play a game the other team is not on the field to make you look good. In a 12 game season there will be a game or 2 in which you just did not bring your A game, the mark of a winning program is to win in spite of it which we did. Winning programs win close games. This is a talented team and I believe is still searching for that leader. This happens on every team when you transition from having a dominent QBs for 6 years. Also, a game like the Kent game kinda of reminds a team that you can lose any time and is a wake up call. I expect a big game this Sat.
