RE: MAC Avg Home Attendance (through Week 6)
NIU has had bad luck, bad team and a terrible night for the first game, and the game today definitely was effected by the weather. Good thing is that the students are showing up. Around 5K each game. The student side is always full. Not something we've seen in a while.

Also, UMass with exactly 17,000???

Yeah, it was pretty miserable here today in Chicagoland....about 40 degrees and spits of rain off an on.

NIU's capacity is currently 23,595 (using last seasons 2 sellouts as references)

A top tier MAC program averaging less than 15k per game? Outrageous! Boot 'em out.

RE: MAC Avg Home Attendance (through Week 6)
Move the decimal to the left one place for Miami, that would be closer to reality than the 17,000 average we currently have. Credit the athletic department for getting someone to buy a large allotment, even if it's only announced attendance.

The weather was pretty lousy yesterday (40's and on/off rain), if it warms up a tad and Miami looks decent the next two weeks against Akron and NIU then we'll have somewhat respectable numbers. Family weekend and homecoming are still coming up, so with our team finally ending the streak we might stay in the mid-teens. The weeknight game against OU will be bad though, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving isn't going to get much of anything.

The good news is that it was a sell-out, the bad news is that 1965 McGuirk capacity is 17k. Heard or plans for end zone seating, but needing a few sell-outs to show the need. It will be interesting seeing the crowd for a mid November Wednesday night game. Think our students will show as well. But Black Friday is going to be bad as all the students are kicked out of the dorms over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

I think our attendance would've been closer to 18,000-20,000 against Toledo had the weather cooperated. It was absolutely miserable.

I'll concur with your weather statement. It was beyong miserable. Raining the entire game. Temps around 40*-45*. Windy (finny thing - at 1 point, when I felt a gust of wind, I turned around so the wind wouldn't hit my face, and about 10-15 umbrellas behind all flipped inside out from the wind).

That whole day was brutal !!! From tailgating at 3 PM on till game time, the rain kept getting worse...

Brand new 30k seated stadiums for all my MAC friends!

My wife asked me if there was any way to make our stands indoor but leave the field outside....some days that doesn't sound too bad.

Looking at Conference USA and Sunbelt numbers, the MAC is doing quite better in the attendance for most teams

44.9% UMass (42,878)
34.3% Akron (30,000)
29.0% Eastern Michigan (30,200)

Again our current capacity is 23,595...though we may have just added 5 or 6 to that because we just finished converting one of our old crows nest camera locations to a mini suite which has 5 of 6 seats.

Capacity amounts vary from where ya hear it. They have official & unofficial, and things in-between. However...

Quote:29.0% Eastern Michigan (30,200)

EMU's capacity being at 30,200 -- is like bringing an anorexic to a huge, expensive all-you-can-eat buffet. Totally unnecessary; will only utilize a small fraction while pretending to eat something they're not really eating.

EMU's stands are all permanent, aren't they? I don't see how they can easily downgrade capacity. Miami did so during renovations when new stands were erected on the east and north endzones and south endzone bleachers were torn down in favor of the jumbotron and Cradle of Coach's Plaza.

Keep the stands and see if they can get an Eminem or Kid Rock concert.
