NIU moved the ball well today but could not finish a drive. It was like there was a force field at the 20, especially early in the game.

The team committed a lot of penalties at bad times. A few 3rd downs were longer than they needed to be.

It sure seemed like today we threw more on first down than I can ever remember.

Not going for it on 4th down and the pooch punt were bad, bad calls.

Agreed. The quick kick is okay from midfield, but from near the 30? Just go for it or don't.
NIU should almost always go for it on 4th down near the 30. The kicking game is terrible and you might cost yourself ten yards. But I'm insanely aggressive at times, I'm always saying "go for it."

(the pooch)It was only a bad call because it didn't work. We did it numerous times with Jordan Lynch last year and it was great. The game was 0-0, and it was OK to punt the ball in the situation.

We should have gone for it. We were driving and had the momentum

It was fourth and two! Against Kent! At the 36! The defense was playing well! It was a wimpy call IMHO.

Agreed. Maybe the coaches need to get the T patch. Seriously, we should been up by 14 in the 1st quarter. We were driving the ball.

"Against Kent" - A team that we almost lost to.
Personally, I would have ran a play, but I don't think it was THAT bad of a call. I disagree with it, but it i don't think it falls into the category of bad coaching/bad play calling.

Especially at lower levels of football where kicking is such a coin flip. I have a feeling that once more advanced states/probability are embraced in football more coaches will go for it on 4th downs. Field position is valuable, but not as valuable as possession.

RE: Hare/Maddie discussion
We go for a bomb in our own end zone and give up safety. We play wimpy at their end and do something really crappy. Why are we doing things that are the opposite of being successful? I know we won both games but it's not helping our confidence.

Both games should have been blowouts.

100% correct.
But our under-qualified coach couldn't pick a QB to start the season....just keep rotating them. That will work.

Hare/Maddie discussion
It seems like maddie has more confidence than hare. Hare is playing scared or nervous, but maddie plays with better instincts. Maddie did make the bad pass in the fourth quarter, but he also accounted for the two touchdown drives.

Hare/Maddie discussion
The people I were with today, who had never seen an Niu game, were shocked when hare came back out for a couple drives in second and third quarter. We all noticed how hare was struggling, and maddie was having more success. Seemed like an obvious choice today

I don't think Hare is a great QB, but I don't think Maddie can lead NIU to a championship. I just don't see it.

I don't understand how anyone could say "Hare is certainly the guy and we need to just GIVE him the job" at this point...were we watching the last 2 games?
I think the main question is...how long is this the Hare/Maddie discussion?
When is Mac back?? Looked like cr*p in the 1st Q of NW...but that's not enough for me to see, he has the most experience in this system.
Can we survive until he's back? And is he really the answer?
I didn't see anyone that was the answer out there today.

There shouldn't be a need for an answer, there should not be a question during Week 6

Yeah, I really want Mac to return. I still think he is the most well rounded guy...plus he only has two years left for you Root dudes (though I would never get excited about a recruit that has never played a college game....been there, done that, bought the Demetrius jones shirt). Anyhow, Mac was limping around today which isn't good, but don't forget he was the original #1, yes with a bad quarter....but same as hare and maddie
