Something I noticed tonight, every time the defense came off the field, there were no coaches talking to the players, no coaching interaction, none at all.

Honestly, it's really easy to see how the defense has declined - the previous staff did not recruit along the line. The current staff used up what depth there was last season, even bringing in JC players to give some depth to that squad. What talent that UC had on the defensive line was exhausted last year (-Mouhan). This years line is at best third string talent, and it shows. Without the ability to stop the run or put pressure on the qb, the rest of the defense cannot get the job done. It's also obvious that the best UC has available is what is on the field.

Still, it's the coaches that must get these players into position to have some success - I just don't see it happening, especially when you don't see a single coach "coaching" on the sidelines during the game. It's also apparent that whatever scheme they are running isn't working either. Remember, it took the offensive staff 4 games last year to get the offense to the correct scheme to match the players skillset.

If TT is letting his assistants coach - it's obvious that they aren't getting the job done. Maybe it's time to step in and take control.

No, tonight's outcome doesn't mean the ACC or B12 are no longer interested in UC. That's not rational.

With that out of the way, it might rank as the most disappointing home loss in my 38 years of watching the Bearcats. Like many here, I sat through those awful decades when UC simply didn't have the athletes to compete. There is talent on this team which makes it so much more disappointing.

While watching pre-game warmups, I commented to my wife about the body language of the two teams; Memphis seemed energized; UC: going through the motions. The crisis in confidence for this coaching staff is well deserved. But for a few plays against our MAC visitors, this team could be 0-4. And absolutely no sense that any element of their game is improving. The buck stops with the head coach and I didn't hear anything in tonight's postgame comments from him that gave me any hope that this can be turned around. It's reasonable to believe they could struggle just to make a bowl, after being picked to win the conference. Regarding Hughes--was he the best UC could afford? I'm not buying that argument either. There are always rising stars in the coaching ranks and what defensive coordinator who has earned his stripes in the MAC wouldn't consider the substantial upgrade in pay and prestige @ UC?

I was a TT supporter until tonight. Just returned from one of the worse football experiences ever. Pathetic coaching. I am not going to slam the players because they are college kids. The defense is just out of place on most downs. When they somehow call in the right defense, they do the job. This is totally coaching. I am so freaking pissed right now.

Was this way most of last year, too. Other than the Houston game when TT actually showed a pulse and was yelling at players, coaches and refs, these kids are largely on their own during games. Zero energy. Game in and game out. Zombieville.

Funny. At the Belk Bowl our coaches were not even supervising pre game warmups. They were chit chatting and laughing together off by the sideline while the UNC coaches had their players ready to run through a wall. While sitting with Bearcat Jim in the stands I sent pics to Eastside J of the utter disarray on one half of the field during warm ups while the other half looked completely dialed in along with the quote "we are about to get run off the field"

I'm sorry, but I still can't get over the fact I just saw a team run the victory formation for the entire 4th quarter. 13 MINUTES!!!!

I can not believe this is the highest paid coaching staff in the conference.

Let that sink in.

The 6 drops in the first half, the WR falling down and causing the pick, and the horrible "block" which led to the fumble were all on the players. The performance of the D is largely coaching. To go from a top 20 D to 120 isn't all due to the players. We just keep running the same stuff and failing at it. Awful.

At this point we literally have 1 guy doing everything, and now he's hurt. The team is getting markedly worse from game to game. That's REALLY disturbing.

This loss was a momentum killer. Most could stomach a loss to OSU, but not a blowout loss to Memphis. 25,000 in the stands tonight and maybe a third of those stuck around after halftime.

This town won't root for a loser.

I really thought we needed attendance to hover over 30K all year to keep the conference realignment momentum. It'll be hard to argue we belong in a P5 conference when you look at attendance numbers the rest of this year.
