RE: Men's Soccer To Right the Ship?
If we fail to make the CAA Playoffs it will be the worst W&M men's soccer year in memory.
The ship will have sunk for sure.

We better have a slew of top prospects coming in next fall to get this program back to the
national contender rankings it has held for so long.

Believe it or not we have had worse or just as bad recently.

This year we are 6-11-1
2 years we were 4-10-4
In 2005, we were 4-9-5

We have had some good years in there too but we have not been consistently great like we once were. Doesn't mean that we shouldn't strive to get back there. Just that we have had some very bad years recently too.

We are out of the CAA tourney qualification...

In those other two years, did we have a similar fate?

Well, some good news...our women just now beat Drexel 2-1 on the opening round of the CAA Tourney to advance to the CAA semi-final game next weekend Came from behind to win it
too; a very good bounce back from losing their last two regular season games last weekend.

RE: Men's Soccer To Right the Ship?
If the Men's soccer team doesn't perform well next year, we should be looking for a new coach. The mid atlantic is a hotbed of talent and given our past pedigree and the fact that many of the best players come from academic-heavy private schools, we should always excel. We have had a lot of inconsistency since Albert retired and I think we have underachieved. There was no strategy employed to fix the complete lack of offense that plagued us all season and I recall this being a problem in past years as well.

I have to disagree. Coach Norris is averaging over 10 wins a season, and 2 or 3 bad years out of 11 isn't enough to warrant a firing IMO

How many times has he gotten us to the NCAAs?

RE: Men's Soccer To Right the Ship?
Looks like we have been 3 times in his 10 years. Al Albert went to 9 over an 11 year span in 90s-00s. I guess I can give a little more time since it looks like more success later in his tenure. It is just frustrating to see the entire season play out without any obvious tactical change. I still question what happened with goaltending switch from last year.

When you score 0 or 1 goals in 12 of 18 games (and get shutout in 8 of those games), who is in goal does not matter. Your record is going to stink. The Tribe was 5-1 in games where they scored 2 or more goals.

Agreed. Just curious what inspired the GK change after a stellar performance last year. Was there something else going on in the locker room?

My 6-year old plays for our local U8 Academy team...give him 12 years and W&M will right the ship. So he says, anyway...

We appear to have gone dry recruiting the top players in the Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland area, one of the nation's hotbeds of high school soccer. Let's hope we land some of these top players this year.

2014 recruit Graham Guidry

runner up for Gatorade State Player of the Year as a senior.

The Fairfax, Virginia native garnered Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year honors, VISAA First-Team All-State, and IAC First-Team after his senior season. During the year, he helped his team to the state title.

Looks like he was on the roster this year, but didnt play. Redshirt? Clearly an offensively minded player we could have used if not...

It would be unfair to the soccer coach to fire him for 2-3 bad years out of 11 when the basketball coach has 2-3 good years out of 11 and is in no danger.

We must be the nicest school to coach for. Most of our coaches remain here for a long time, even when they don't really win
