RE: Sophomore QB's
As fans we have been spoiled the last 4 years. Our QB play has been the best in the MAC. Hare has done a good job. Is it elite like Harnish and Lynch, no not yet. We are 6-2 with two major offensive weapons injured(TLL and Daniels). We might not be dominating like some would like but a win is a win. I remember back in the Bulls heyday, people would say this team has lost "it" when only winning by a couple of points.

People have to stop using Harnish as a basis for Hare. You generally don't see a 3rd year starter (4th year player) coming off a knee injury magically take a huge step forward. He was an exception.

That's not to say Hare can't or won't improve or even take a huge step forward, but it's not like you generally see a gigantic leap at some point in a college career.

Haldi's probably a more apt comparison since his first year starting was his sophomore year, while Harnish already had a year under his belt in '09.

And even then you're talking about two offenses that couldn't be anymore different from each other.

Remember when Dan Nicholson came off the bench as a Freshman and won 3 games against the 3 best teams in the West (two on the road, one without Wolfe) to lead NIU to Detroit? Completing 62% of his passes and 6 TD/2 INT?

Or when Phil Horvath completed 70% of his passes as a Junior?

And then this happened the year after:

It's not like a football player is a plant and if you give it sunlight and water it's promised it'll grow into something bigger and better.

What's your point, 7? Be more pessimistic?

03-lmfao Phil Horvath? Good God.

I think college players certainly CAN improve dramatically. For one thing they do actually grown & mature between freshman yr. and when they leave the team after 4 or 5 years. So in actuality, the plant analogy is a good one. Feed them, guide them, coach them well, and they DO grow into better players.
Harnish improved every year. Lynch too.
From a recent article on Harnish:
Harnish sees a similar progression to his own college career. He eased into his role as a passer in his first season as a starter at NIU. He averaged only 152 yards passing and threw more interceptions (nine) than touchdown passes (eight).
