"The unemployment rate fell last month because more people were getting jobs, not because they were dropping out of the labor force as they have at times during the economic recovery. The share of people in the workforce was essentially unchanged."

I'm not saying you're wrong, but to me it sounds like they're not paying enough. Raise the wages/benefits and people will find those jobs more appealing. There's only so much you can ***** about as an employer that can't find workers when there are so many people sitting at home.

So which side is lying? This seems to be a baseless comment since the article does admit that the labor participation rate decreased again.

The part I found most interesting is that 230,000 of the jobs went to people over 55. Hardly robust job growth for the demographic that needs it most.

It seems that a lot of Americans won't do just any job anymore. No wonder undocumented workers are needed to fill those positions.

Who wants to do manual labor? That's hard. People want easy jobs that pay more.

I've got an MBA, had plush office jobs, sales jobs, ran my own business, and done plenty of manual labor on farms and commercial fishing boats. It's all about work ethic and the type of life you want. I've made just as much money fishing and farming as I have wearing a suit and with one tenth the stress. Too many people these days are taught that manual labor is beneath them and don't have any experience of their own to form their own opinions.

This would be impressive if not for a 36 year LOW for the Labor Participation Rate.

Thanks Obama!!!

Labor Participation Rate Drops To 36 Year Low; Record 92.6 Million Americans Not In Labor Force

Obamanomoics

Record 55,553,000 Women Not Participating in Labor Force

Maybe Voodoo economics?

It's NOT better when people just give up.

More people that surrender to this economy,
are more people that surrender to the government.

It’s a win/win for liberals.

From Goldman Sachs:

Headlines that blare Workforce Participation at 36-Year Low as Jobs Climb aren't helpful. A large decline in the participation rate has been expected for some time, and those that keep saying "the participation rate is at a multi-decade low" are not contributing to the discussion. There is a question of how much of the decline is related to demographic trends (retirement, more young people staying in school are two key trends), and how much is cyclical - but some key recent research now supports my view that a majority is demographics.
