ECU must be overrated... giving up 24 points to SMU at HOME? That's twice as many points as SMU had scored in their first four games (combined).

Texas has about the longest possible drive but gets no points. They stopped Baylor on downs at the goal line, then drive down 99 yards only to fumble at the opposite goal line on essentially the last play of the half.

7-0 Baylor on a blocked field goal return.

Baylor had a nice drive in the third quarter (including a fake punt) to go up by two touchdowns. 14-0 going to the 4th.

Meanwhile 31 all for OU at TCU.

I fail to understand how associating with an athletic conference that fails to stand for any semblance of the actual mission of an educational institution (save for Vandy) allows you to "enhance your brand". Perhaps they were speaking of the infamous BEVO (13-0) brand.

Then why did Colorado, Missouri, and Nebraska get out of the B12 as fast as the could? Right now the SEC is #1 with the Pac12 a distant 2nd in national prominence.

UT's brand has slipped quite a bit and if they thought having A&M leave would help they were greatly mistaken.

Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, and A&M all left for the exact same reason. The number one team in terms of revenue in the conference had just figured out how to capture much of it's TV revenue and keep it away from the Conference as a whole.

As far as whether being in the SEC has helped A&M's brand, I don't really know, but I doubt it's had much impact. Yes, A&M's brand has gone up the past few years, but that's almost entirely due to their winning and having a Heisman Trophy Winner.

Yes, and Manzel most likely would not have had the national exposure to have won the Heisman had he not been in the SEC with national TV games against Alabama, LSU, et al.

Because scrambling underclassman quarterbacks at non-UT Big XII teams don't get the exposure necessary to win the Heisman.

His numbers certainly garnered a lot more attention coming vs SEC defenses than they would have Big XII defenses.

RE: Other college football games this week
At least my ladies won two today in their brand of football, 34-0 over a combined UTSA/UTD team and 15-5 over Angelo State. Starting 6 rookies, and playing 9, I was reasonably happy. Offense good, defense left a lot to be desired. 5 points in two games and I'm complaining about the defense, hmm. Of course, one of my former captains told me that if we had the Seattle Seahawks' defense I wouldn't be happy. Wasn't at all happy that my halfback got a concussion. She'll be resting a while. She's a great player, but she's also a super young lady, with a great career in front of her, and her future is far more important than winning a game.

So far, that's 4 top 10 teams going down this week, another undefeated team (BYU) losing, and Notre Dame barely escaped on a 4th down TD very late. Separation Saturday (ESPN's term) has just muddled things a bunch, it would appear.

CUSA West is looking less improved... As UTSA loses to New Mexico at home, UNT gets blown out by Indiana, and UTEP was uncompetitive with La Tech... Who lost to an FCS team recently.

A Hail Mary TD gives Arizona State a win over Southern Cal.

Cal 41 - Washington State 45 with just under five minutes left in the third. Cal just returned their second consecutive kickoff for a touchdown. Wazzu already recovered an onside kick and their QB already has 562 passing yards (new Pac 12 single game record).

*** Not surprisingly, Wazzu with a pooch kick after their next TD. 41-52 heading into the fourth quarter.

Utah upsets #8 UCLA, 30-28. UCLA attempted a 55 yd FQ, but missed it. However, a questionable call, running into the kicker, was made, 5 yd penalty. UCLA attempted a 50 yd FG, with no time left on the clock, and missed it again.

After UCLA scored on a 40 yard pass with 4:50 left, Utah matriculated down the field and kicked a field goal to take a 30-28 lead with 28 seconds left. UCLA actually got in position for a 50 yard field goal attempt with no time on the clock (after a running into the kicker call on a 55 yard attempt) but the kick was wide right. Utah wins, and another top 10 team goes down.

And Washington State cougs it in truly impressive fashion, driving the ball down to the 2 but missing the 19 yard field goal with 15 seconds left to lose 59 to 60 (looked like a low snap). The Cougars QB did set a new FBS record with 726 passing yards, so there's that.
