In spite of allowing Washington State to accumulate 812 yards of total offense, California wins 60-59.

I guess we have to keep rooting for upsets and Marshall to keep winning. They should be in the top 25 soon, and might emerge as a darkhorse candidate for the playoffs. If nothing else, perhaps they elevate themselves into a better bowl game.

I doubt it, as Marshall's schedule is beyond pathetic. Their SoS is going to be one of the worst in the country.

But if they end up as the only undefeated team in the country, it could be an interesting situation.

Just 10 unbeatens left in college football -- FSU, Georgia Tech, Marshall, Notre Dame, Arizona, Baylor, TCU and three from the SEC in Auburn, and the two Mississippi schools. Four of those 10 play each other next week (Baylor against TCU, and Auburn against Mississippi State), and then FSU plays Notre Dame in two weeks. So we're looking at a maximum of 7 in two weeks (and probably less - let's see how Ole Miss does at A&M).

Now that BYU has lost a game (and its quarterback), it looks as if the race for the one designated non-P5 major bowl game slot is going to be between East Carolina and Marshall.

Anybody else wondering the cost to buy-out the last two games of the Baylor series? Bears bringing it, and the 2015 schedule would look more manageable without the trip to Waco.

Maybe Art Briles gets hired away after this season?

Michigan seems like a logical choice to throw money at Briles. The Texas paydays both are filled for several more years.

OT - but this reminds me of a conversation I had at HRS on Saturday. Someone mentioned that only in the US do we somehow root for rivals in the same conference/division.

Still can't get myself to cheer for Marshall or anyone else in C-USA. Arsenal fans wouldn't be cheering on Manchester United in the Champions League vs a La Liga team.

I can't imagine not rooting for conference teams against non-conference opponents. It's self-interest on top of whatever little comraderie there might be.

I cannot root for Marshall to go undefeated, as that would mean winning against us. also, I have rooted for the underdog so long it is hard to root for the frontrunner, especially when their success with just make them more arrogant and make them want to leave us behind. been there, done that.

Yet when two other teams meet, one has to win. Sometimes it is like choosing between my IRS auditor and my wife's divorce attorney, but usually at the end I am rooting for one over the other.

To be fair, scoring 59 points and losing sounds suspiciously like something another team from Houston has done. I'm not sure who or when...

I said couged it, not cooged it. Those are two entirely distinct phenomenons.

59 points and still losing...I'm sure its possible. But no way does any team score 63 points and lose. That is just impossible...like perpetual motion.

In this day and age, with high-powered passing games and the advent of overtime, teams occasionally do score 63+ points and lose. However, in a 60-minute game an old-fashioned option team couldn't have ever possibly lost when scoring 63 points. That's my revisionist story and I'm sticking with it.

59 is nothing. You have to have 63 and lose to truly achieve something. . . . . . better yet, blow a huge lead in the process.

True frustration - when the opposing team beats your 63 with what seems like a total of 10 offensive plays run (great hyperbole, but I'm sure if we went back and looked, we won TOP by 10 to 15 minutes minimum)
