Gracepoint premiers tonight (Oct 2)
Looking forward to the Fox show "Gracepoint". It is adapted from the BBC's "Broadchurch", which was on BBC America last year and was one of the best shows I'd ever seen. It scored well at Britain's Emmys.

Couple of points. First, the trailer for "Gracepont" appears to match the first episode of "Broadchurch" exactly. The mother running between the cars is almost identical.

Second, David Tennent will reprise his role as the lead detective, this time affecting an Oragonian accent instead of a Scot.

Third, the writers said that the ending will not match "Broadchurch" ending. This is both good and bad. The "Broadchurch" ending was brilliant but at least I'll be able to try to intuit the ending again.

Finally, I'll probably watch the second half hour on demand since the Oregon game is starting at 10:30.

I'm SOOOOO excited. I'm such a fan of Tennant. I do hate that he won't have his natural accent on display. Scotsmen are hot 03-wink

He also has a couple of movies coming out this year so it looks like he's starting to really cross-over into the American market. One can only hope.

I haven't seen Broadchurch since I don't have a lot of time to watch BBC-A but I'm definitely watching Gracepoint tonight. I guess after it's over I'll go back and see if I can watch Broadchurch On Demand.

This is my concern. I know the producers said that they won't be the same. But so far, every time the trailer hits, the only difference that I have seen is the involvement of the priest (Arthur Darvill's character in Broadchurch).

I watched the first episode of "Broadchurch" after seeing "Gracepoint." The two were virtually identical. Not only the scenes and the dialogue, but the camera angles and expressions of the actors. Even the positioning of the people standing by their cars when Beth ran to the beach were identical.

Only two things different were: early morning wasn't a paper route but a whale counting, and cause of death was not strangulation but blunt object induced head trauma. These may be significant, especially the cause of death, because the show runner has promised a different murderer.

They've already said to expect the first 1 or 2 episodes to be very similar/identical. It's only after the 1st episode they're going to change things up.

I'm still voting for #guiltyvince. Nobody keeps a plumber's van out til 4 in the morning! :)

Maybe it is a red herring or maybe the producers just flat out lied about who did it, but episode #9 had some clues that pointed directly at Ellie's husband, Joe. Now since he was the guilty one in Broadchurch, and since the producers said there would be a different ending in Gracepoint, gets me wondering if the "different ending" was only a ruse to get Broadchurch viewers. Ellie's husband was a terrific twist in Broadchurch.

And we have Ellie asking Susan "How could you not know?" and asking Joe "What do you do all day?" seems like a set-up for the final or maybe just bait and switch.

No matter it is clear that Tom has the key to the mystery. Maybe the killer is Joe but the reason is not sexual but covering for Tom in some way.

I didn't watch last night getting suckered into watching Peter Pan Live (big mistake, btw). Look forward on catching up tonight. I've really enjoyed this show and noticed that Broadchurch will be on Netflix later this month. I look forward to watching that as well and comparing the two. Broadchurch is now making series 2 so hopefully Gracepoint did well enough in the ratings to earn another season as well.

Can't believe I'm going to miss the finale tonight. The symphony I play with has our holiday concert tonight. Looks like I'll be watching it tomorrow night on Hulu.

Holy crap!!! Not the ending I was expecting at all. You were definitely way more clued in than I was. I haven't seen Broadchurch but I was not expecting this to go down the way it did. I really wish it would get picked up for a second season because I thought they did a tremendous job.

Yeah, I saw that last night. Typical Fox. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I don't get why all these people thought Tennant's American accent was bad. I prefer his Scottish or even the form of English he uses in Doctor Who but his American accent was bland enough that he could have been from anywhere. Some people saw that as a problem. It didn't bother me. Accents in movies/TV only bother me when they completely butcher the Southern accent. Very few of us sound like Scarlett O'Hara anymore.

It's cancelled.

And not a minute too soon. 9 weeks of red herrings and then that ending. Consign it to the television scrap heap, one rung above My Mother the Car.

I enjoyed it. It's certainly better than anything else Fox is showing other than Gotham. I mean we're on season 188888 of American Idol now, right? 01-lauramac2
