UL has done everything to keep him around now if he wants to go that is his decision.

I personally think that if Hudsbeth leaves we need To go after Matt Viator coach for McNeese State. 62-27 record almost beat Nebraska this year at McNeese, he has had a winning record every year he has been there.

Why has anyone else not gone after Coach Viator? I think he is a good coach as well, but unlike at McNeese at UL he couldn't load up on FBS transfers to play every year. Not to mention the APR hits he took several years back. Its much easier to cover your recruiting mistakes when you can take FBS transfers right away like Sam and Antoine.

I personally think that coaches who have held other head coaching jobs make better head coaches. Perfect example is Willie Fritz at GaSo who coached at SHSU. Even Hudsbeth was a HC at Delta State.

I think we need to go after coaches that have been successful at the FCS level that want to make the jump to FBS.

There is an internet rumor that at a previous job he dumped his left his wife for his current wife who was a student at the time. If that's true it would keep a lot of schools from hiring him

In other news, Bobby Petrino's cardinals have a lead over syracuse.

We've gone the opposite route. From our experience it takes several games for them to get on track in the first HC gig. It hasn't hurt us much since we got rings each time....but no telling how it would be without that learning curve.

I could see SMU or Houston making a run at him.

I said it would keep a lot of schools not all. A lot of major programs wouldn't go near Petrino. Louisville ranks somewhere around 128 out of 128 D1 programs in ethics but it's worked for them. Believe it or not most universities care about their public image. Louisville does not. There is a telling recent quote from Petrino where he told a reporter that at Louisville athletics existed solely to generate profits and wins. Personally I'm thrilled they hired that douchebag because they saved UAB from the horror that was Garrick McGee.

My understanding, and I'm no insider, is that he had "for all practical purposes", accepted the Tulane job. Then the UL admin (President) convinced him to stay. I think it had a lot to do with early promises for facility improvements, etc; that were not getting done.

I'm sure there is a lot more to the story, but that's all I really know.

Had to have just been about money then. No way Tulane is a step up from you guys.

Meh...

Louisiana had been steeped in mediocrity for years before Hud came along, he has Louisiana in a better place than Tulane, but it only took a few years to get there. If he took the Tulane job and Louisiana missed on his replacement, he could have Tulane ahead of the Cajuns in just a few years, doesn't mean it wasn't also about money though, let's not pretend that Tulane couldn't have easily outbid Louisiana if they decided Hud was their guy. He went back to Louisiana for $1M(correct me if I'm wrong on that number Cajuns) rather than taking Tulane's $1.3M, what if Tulane had offered $1.75M? I think Hud genuinely loves it at Louisiana, so maybe even that wouldn't have done it, but I don't think they were as crazy to try as you seem to think.

Point is Tulane isn't a great job by any means, but Louisiana wasn't much better when Hud got there, I can certainly see why Tulane would have offered.

With regards to the on the field product I would have said UL and Tulane were close to even with the Cajuns maybe slightly ahead. Ricky Bustle did a good job to get them back to a .500 club from the travesty that was Jerry Baldwin. Tulane has an advantage with the name on the degree when you finish your 4 years. They Cajuns have the advantage in about every other category that would bring a student to college. JMO

My thought is that UL was a sleeping giant, particularly in the SBC, and was going to rise regardless the coach but it was Hud that came along and got much of the glory. Suspect that was the administration as much as anything along with the economic turn down. Hud hasn't gotten the call because he has not convinced enough people that he can get the job done. Count me in this latter group.
