I really appreciate the poll and the work that you all have put into it, but the site reminds me of the old Geocities pages: http://www.wonder-tonic.com/geocitiesize...06069.html

If BYU actually counts I'd have no issue with anyone who ranks them 1, but I don't really view them as G5. Same for Army and Navy until next year.

I don't place the independents on my ballot. They are not G5. If I did, BYU would be #1 and Navy would be in the 20s somewhere. Given that, ECU was my #1 this week, but will watch how they play a vastly inferior opponent this week. SMU hasn't scored on anyone, so ECU needs to shut them down to show they are capable of that on defense.

I put ECU second (I include BYU on my ballot). I agree that I will be watching ECU pretty closely. With the loss to USC (who got trashed the week before and then went out and got beat last week by Mizzou) and then VT/UNC-CHeat both looking terrible, now, I don't know what to think about ECU. Thus far, they've won those games (after all, you can only play who is on your schedule), but much of the luster has come off of their wins because of their opponents' performances. It's just tough to know what you're looking at with them.

I will say that I was down on ECU when I watched the VT game (both teams looked really sloppy- it was a matter of who sucked less for the win) and then high on them after UNC-CHeat (one, because it was the Cheats and, two, because the offense looked really great). With both of those teams going out and sucking it up, ECU has got to be pissed. They scheduled what they thought was going to be a damn good OOC, and these guys are ruining it for them.

I also don't think it will be fair to penalize ECU if they beat SMU 40-24. It's closer than I would expect it to be, but there are so many variables; plus, SMU will probably be pretty motivated in all of these games and ECU will probably be hard-pressed to keep playing hard when they jump out to a big lead. You just can't predict it. As long as they aren't winning three weeks in a row in overtime by a FG, then I'll probably keep them right up there until BYU loses or someone else jumps them, somehow. If Marshall continues to win, I can see putting them above, but I'm not convinced that I would.

Va Tech is still a decent team…They flat out gave away that Ga Tech game. One thing about Va Tech, win or lose they play "ugly" games because of how good their defense plays, it has been that way for years. They will be around the top of the ACC at the end of the season. UNC flat out sucks balls on defense but we did what we should have done against them…When the starters went out of the game it was 62-27 with most of the 4th quarter left, they scored two cheap touchdowns against of back-ups.

I really do not give a darn what our OOC opponents do the rest of the season, they are still decent wins. ECU has no control over how their league opponents of OOC opponents perform but no matter what our OOC schedule will still stack up favorably with any other G5 team if we make it to the point of being in the discussion for the G5 spot at the end of the year.

Like the effort of this poll, but it is unbelievably biased. Just looking at it from the MAC perspective... yes it's just an avg year for the MAC, but y'all have ONE MAC team in this G5 poll. My Bobcats are 3-2 and ya have 1-3 teams ranked? BG and Akron have beat P5 teams. Sorry, just pointing out some flaws...

RE: Week 5 G5 Top 25 National Football Poll 2014
After the first 4 weeks of the season, I consider myself a MAC expert having seen Miami, Ohio and Akron in person and watching NIU, BGSU, and Toledo on TV. I voted NIU in the top 10 and Akron & Bowling Green in the 20s. Ohio is 3-2, but you guys just aren't good. Horrible offense and a small and slow defense. Your 3 wins are against horrible teams. The two non-horrible teams you have played have out scored you 66-17, and it wasn't like you played Ohio State and Alabama.

The MAC isn't just average this year, it's horrible.

I agree that ECU has no control over those games, which is what my post basically says. However, if you're saying that the way other teams perform doesn't impact the perception of a win or loss against a team, then we certainly disagree. If VT and UNC-CHeat end up a combined 13-11/14-10, then those certainly aren't what I would consider "great wins," and probably wouldn't be the best wins you have, if you are in the conversation at the end of the season. The "name" of the opponent doesn't automatically make it a quality win no matter how their season goes. On the flipside, if those teams finish 17-7 overall, then you have a couple of really great wins under your belt against strong teams. Of course the perception of teams alters as more information comes in, and the true strength of those wins remains to be seen, as the season plays out. ECU can't do anything about that and did what they could in controlling it by going 2-1 in those games- but we still have to see how much those wins will end up meaning.

There was an open call for pollsters put out to csnbbs board members of ALL G5 conferences.

Two P5 wins over Colorado and Boston College.

After watching Houston-UCF last night, I have to think those teams have been too high.

Akron 82, Toledo 65, are receiving votes. They just didn't get enough of them. It's not a popularity contest. I would not get bent out of shape if my team or conference does not have enough teams at this point. The longer the poll goes on the more accurate it becomes. The first one is always the most skewed and I laugh where folks get bent out of shape early.

I had two MAC teams in my poll FWIW but not three. That may change as teams win and lose games and I move teams up and down my board.

Overall it is a fair representation.

BTW I DID vote BYU #1 and I do include all independents except ND.

I also rank EVERY team in the G5 and not just a top 25 each week. I have teams rise and fall depending on wins, losses, whom they play, and level of competition. Were they blown out? Close win? It's more work but more fun IMHO and I think it gives you a more accurate poll than just coming up with a top 25 each week.

We also don't want homers for each conference. We want an accurate poll but it is also good to have a varied mix of posters.
That's my two cents.

Houston always finds a way to lose in dramatic fashion and break the hearts of their fan base. But as bad as the Coogs looked all night, they were still in position to beat UCF in the end.
