Getting a commit over Harvard in hoops is pretty legit these days.

Quote:"It was in my gut," Cashaw said of choosing Rice. "This is Coach Rhoades' first year so he's really pumped and excited, and I can't wait to have the opportunity to play for him."

This is exactly what we all hoped would happen. Good news.

The article says that was his uncle's Rice Owls jersey. That doesn't look right.

It looked like it was a bit tight given Terrance's size. I thought Terrance was bigger than 6'7", but I don't think I followed Rice basketball closely wen he played.

Yeah-never seen a jersey like that-red around the numbers?

The article also says that the young man's uncle, Terrance Cashaw, played for Rice 20 years ago. I didn't remember him from the 1994-era team, so I looked him up. Turns out he played about 30 years ago, in the mid-80s.

Odd if the mid-80s Rice basketball uniforms had red and basically looked like SMU's uniforms.

Yeah... Terrance was a classmate of mine. I don't remember ANY red at all... EVER... but it might have been some sort of a 'special' one?? The young man has great genes, for certain.... He played with Wilson, Tudor, Witten, Pierce, Washington, Hines, Pettit and others.

Hmm... I still remember Pettit from the baseball team, but I may be confused.

Ivan Pettit played PG if I remember right. A good guy and a tough defender. He and Tracy Steele (shooting guard) were my neighbors at Baker one year.

ETA: I don't remember any red on the jerseys either.

I wonder if this commitment is considered to be as promising as the one we recently lost?

Some of the Tommy Suitts era uniforms had some red trim. We laughed that he was trying to emulate Alabama.

Maybe it's red due to bad washing and drying decisions over the years?

I think it's very good news we are able to get a 2nd generation Owl so to speak. I also wonder if the North Shore de-commit was a mutual decision. I'm looking very forward to this year's team - and future ones after that.

Great pick up. It sounds like his uncle was a good player back in the 80's. Great start for Coach Rhoades

Reminds me of an exhibition against the Cuban national team circa 1991?
