FSU not looking as dominant this year
Could it be because the Noles have played the SECOND TOUGHEST schedule so far among top 10 teams? Here's a graph of SoS numbers as crunched by Sonny Moore's computer rankings website:

Here's a link to my write up:
http://accfootballrx.blogspot.com/2014/0...tters.html

highlights:

Quote:Florida State's schedule so far is about 25% tougher than either Alabama's or Oklahoma's schedule has been. Oh, by the way, the teams in the graph are the top 10 according to Sonny Moore's power ratings - no sign of Baylor.

Quote:You can try to convince me that WVU + Florida or WVU + Tennessee is better than Oklahoma State + Clemson, but I'm not buying it.

Thoughts?

RE: FSU not looking as dominant this year
Well, NC State is better than most figured because last year was such an aberration and we had no QB last year. Folks forget that we led Duke in the 4th and could have beaten UNC, WF, and Syracuse if not for the offensive wheels coming off in spades. With Duke we threw three pick-6's in the 4th in the span of about 4 minutes. So we looked bad on paper, and everyone assumed Ga Southern and Old Dominion were no good. So State was supposed to be a suck team and FSU is dinged for only winning late in the 4th.

FSU is missing something this year and it's more than just focus. They seem weaker on defense and have less of a running game, however, if Auburn had not been stealing FSU's signals in the first half of the championship game, FSU might have beaten the living hell out of them and that team would be sitting in the all time top 10 college squads.

FSU still has all the parts to win the NC this year.

RE: FSU not looking as dominant this year
FSU is not as good as last year....that team was historically good.

Current team is actually pretty young. FSU has needed a large number of true freshman to play a big part this year.

FSU won't get credit for much of anything this year unless it goes undefeated and beats and wins a game in the playoffs. Short of that, the SEC media will continue on with the same message as last year....FSU isn't any good (even while beating an SEC team). It is what they do.

BS. Their schedule is weak! They are out of the playoff if they lose 1 game.

Schedule + filling in holes by players that left + off the field Jameis distraction = shaky start

the offense looked like it was coming together at NC State....I mean, they did put up 56 after all

don't the media pundits fool you, FSU is pretty darn good this year

ya, I think the missing leaders on the D is noticeable....new and younger players are going to have to step up. But I think they will with more games played....Hunter in the secondary is a stud....he hits hard. Goldman is making a name for himself....the LBs need to step up

And ya, NC State doesn't get near enough credit....their QB made some dazzling plays in that game

Jeremy Pruitt has won national championships everywhere he has coached as D.C. - you're bound to miss him, too

RE: FSU not looking as dominant this year
Here's what my nemesis - Clay Travis - wrote about this SAME subject today:

Quote:Florida State being ranked No. 1 proves how worthless the AP poll is.
One of the great flaws of all polls is the unwillingness of voters to believe that their opinions might be wrong. I try to avoid this with Outkick's poll by reacting on a week-to-week basis to what we've actually seen on the field. It doesn't just take a loss for me to be willing to drop a team in my rankings either. Every week is a new data point. If you don't react to what happens in any given week, what's the point of a poll at all?
With that in mind, every poll voter who has Florida State No. 1 should lose their poll vote. Right now that's nearly half of the poll. Seriously, how can 27 of the 61 AP voters believe that FSU is the best team in the nation based on what they've seen so far this year? FSU has been a borderline top 10 team on the field this year.
If the committee were picking teams today, FSU shouldn't be in the playoff.
Period.

Travis is an idiot.

This applies to all NON SEC Schools. When the SEC struggles, they are just building character.

FSU not looking dominant this year? Well, neither is anyone else. The top teams have played only four games so far. That's a lot of football left to be played. Call me when somebody definitively rises to the top.

1. I share your disdain for Travis. What has he been right about? He leaked an idea about Virginia Tech and N.C. State to float a trial balloon at the behest of someone at the conference office and suddenly he becomes a celebrity and guru of realignment without ever having had an original or correct idea.

2. There is no way to judge F.S.U.'s schedule until we near the end of the season. That goes for anyone's schedule. Schedules are hyped on last years' performance. Clemson '14 is not the Clemson of '13. Nobody knows yet what N.D. really has. We'll find out soon enough. N.C. State played well and maybe they are for real, but their early schedule was weak enough, as were many school's early schedule, that you can't tell yet how good they are.

3. F.S.U. graduated a number of skill and strength positions. Who knows yet how well their replacements stack up.

4. Winston has to be a distraction to the team's focus. They could be better than they have shown, worse than they have shown, or about what they have shown. Outside of N.D. and a Florida school in total disarray who do they have left to play? They could slip up and get upset, but they look like a perfect record to me if they get by the Irish.
