Longhorn Network- DirecTV?
Just saw this:
http://www.dbstalk.com/topic/200951-tran...14/page-27

generally speaking before networks go on directv- they go in testing where folks that have the specific test equipment can test to make sure it's working before it goes on air.

Saw where someone said the AD Patterson spoke in Ft. Worth on 9/11 and said DirecTV would be done by the end of October.

Those ratings numbers were not a good sign for the Big12.

1) Need to start charging for all the time they waste obsessing over the SEC

2) Do they really want LHN ratings number published?

3) Yeah, those ratings have to be a concern for the Big 12

Texas-BYU had an audience of 910,000

That's terrible. And it's a matchup of really big fan bases too.

It was a blowout and it was on FS1 opposite Notre Dame-Michigan, Virginia Tech-Ohio St. and Michigan St.-Oregon, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest rated games of the day (USC-Stanford was #1).

RE: Longhorn Network- DirecTV?
And the week before, the top 2 rated games were the regional combination of WVU/Alabama and Cal/NW followed by FSU/Oklahoma St. Both of those games did better than any the 2nd week except for the USC/Stanford game.

So yes, FSU/Oklahoma St. drew better than Notre Dame/Michigan or the top 10 matchup of Michigan St. and Oregon.

I wonder if the ratings would have been better on the LHN or BYUtv?

And here's the following week from the media ratings that have been linked on here before:

1.7 2.56M 12:00 PM ECU/Virginia Tech ESPN

0.2 283K 4:00 PM Minnesota/TCU FS1
0.2 254K 12:00 PM Syracuse/Cent. Mich. ESPNEWS
0.1 252K 12:00 PM Pittsburgh/FIU (pre-delay) FS1
0.1 185K 4:00 PM Mississippi St./So. Alabama ESPNEWS
0.0 52K 8:00 PM Navy/Texas St. ESPNEWS
0.0 34K 3:08 PM Pittsburgh/FIU (post-delay) FS2

Note that Iowa/Iowa St. beat Texas A&M/Rice, Washington/Illinois and nearly beat USC/BC and Alabama/So. Miss.

There's nothing in these numbers to worry about for the Big 12.

Blacksburg VA & Greenville NC making a strong showing...
So much for needing a state(flagship)/big city media market to draw good TV ratings

RE: Longhorn Network- DirecTV?
A long standing rivalry game between two P5 did slightly better than A&M playing a body bag game?

Man it's nice to be that kind of bench mark!

But if we want a more straight up comparison I'd love to see A&M vs Arkansas rating compared to Tech vs Arkansas.

In the mean time, here is an interesting look at ratings in the heart of Big 12 Country:

Dallas-Fort Worth TV ratings for some of the top Saturday games
(Each rating point represents about 26,000 homes)

Texas A&M 35, Arkansas 28 (OT), CBS11 @2:30 p.m. — 7.5

Baylor 49, Iowa State 28, Fox4 @7 p.m. — 3.3

Florida State 56, NC State 41, Channel 8 @2:30 p.m. — 2.8

Georgia 35, Tennessee 32, ESPN @11 a.m. — 2.8

Notre Dame 31, Syracuse 15, Channel 8 @7 p.m. — 2.1

Texas 23, Kansas 0, Fox Sports 1 @ 4 p.m. — 1.5

Missouri 21, South Carolina 20, ESPN @ 6 p.m — 1.3

TCU 56, SMU 0, CBS Sports Network @ 11 a.m. — Not rated

Missouri 21, South Carolina 20, ESPN @ 6 p.m — 1.3

TCU 56, SMU 0, CBS Sports Network @ 11 a.m. — Not rated

An Iowa St. team coming off a loss to North Dakota St. and an Iowa team coming off a lousy season matched highly ranked USC vs. BC and yes, nearly doubled top 10 ranked A&M with their big fan base vs. Rice. The OP seemed and the article quoted seemed to think the Big 12 had something to worry about and population base was a big deal.

Don't know your source on the Dallas ratings, but the UT game started on FS2 because the Reds/Pirates game ran over. Some systems (notably Comcast) don't have FS2. And FS1 games have ratings like ESPNU as a lot of systems don't have them and others have them away from the sports channels. I know on my Comcast FS1 is 75 while sports channels are 45-53 or 109-120 or 290-300. Fox needs to get that fixed.

Lol, is that you DeLoss? You know you can stop the spin doctoring at this point.

If you're going to make excuses at least make them good ones:

A&M/Rice was not only a weak game but had a 2.5 hour rain delay and didn't kick off till 9:00. Very few are going to bother staying up till midnight to watch a body bag game

Who is spinning now?

Both comments are legitimate.

Hope they Do!

The comments by Longhorn fans at the bottom are pretty interesting. Seems like most are unhappy with their conference situation and at their previous AD for locking them in, and that they would happily trade in some of their LHN money and B12 power for greater exposure, higher profile competition and a better shot at the national championship. There's a bit little jealously there over A&M and others that were able to help themselves while Texas got left behind.

They're a minority. But there are definitely some who are unhappy.
If we had done better than 5-7, 8-5, 9-4 and 8-5 over the last 4 years, I think those voices would pretty much disappear.

TAMU-Ark had a 2.8 on CBS, TTU-Ark had a 2.1 on ABC per http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/ .

But of course TAMU games should draw a lot more viewers than TTU games. What would be more interesting is looking at ratings for TAMU SEC games vs. UT and OU Big 12 games, on comparable TV outlets (e.g., don't compare a CBS game to a game on frickin' FS1).

We're all playing ranked conference opponents this weekend, should make for some good comparison.
