Some may joke about TOP, but when a team has the lead and holds the ball for 11 minutes in the 4th quarter its hard to lose.
Covington didn't have the personal stats, but his return obviously made a difference when you watch the tape. The attention he attracted opened up others to make plays

Positives:
(1) Win!!!!!!!!!!!
(2) Liked Hamilton returning kickoffs. I don't know why, but I like the way he runs.
(3) Liked Schantz at DE, took advantage of the RT quite a bit
(4) Liked anyone but Callahan on punt returns, and his getting horse-collared showed us why. Hull with a good return, but mostly I just liked not seeing Callahan back there for once.
(5) Liked showing some faster tempo in 1st half.
(6) New FG kicker.

Negatives:
(1) Driphus with his least consistent game of the season. Didn't use him in the run game (other than scrambles). Some good throws, but more bad throws than usual.
(2) SoMiss lost more than Rice won. SoMiss had quite a few open receivers drop balls and quite a few open receivers where the QB missed the throw. So the coverage was maybe marginally better, but SoMiss helped Rice a lot.
(3) Covington hasn't made much impact in either of his healthy games.
Negatives
1 - Agree. So far the running game is carrying us (Davis). We cannot win consistently against better defenses with 150-200 yards passing. The game plan protects him with short safe throws and routes with an occasional deep ball. I'm afraid of what will happen when teams take away our running game away.
2.) I don't see the offense going faster maybe is just me. I also see QB and running backs getting mixed up. It's been happening since game one when Davis got hit hard on what looked to be a missed call by QB or OC.
3.) So Miss was an awful team from what I saw today. Taped the game and was able to replay, several TD's missed. Ref's were not very good either.
4.) Covington - agree. Looks slow to me.
5.) Hull and Parks not involved enough. JT dropped pass

Positives
1.) got the first W
2.) Our punter kicking short field goals and xp. Looked very consistent
3.) J Davis - carrying us. So far best offensive player on team. Second effort. Takes pressure away from our QB
4.) Safeties played much better

We need six wins, one and five to go. Need to win the next two if not we are in trouble, schedule gets tougher

Always interesting, every year, to see who of the relative newcomers will step up to help and become tomorrow's leaders. We're now seeing Peterson, Schantz, McGaskey, Thomas, Wright, and others coming on.
Very excited about Hamilton on kickoffs. It seemed to me he might be floundering and a wasted talent as the 3rd team RB and as an occasional DE.

The key there is having the lead in the 4th quarter. I don't think anybody would argue that towards the end, the team with the lead wants to shorten the game.

That doesn't mean that TOP is a generally useful metric.

Yes, please--- certainly can watch it again!

Also, although he did not have his best game, DJ involved in three key plays: first his thrown interception, but then his one-arm TD-saving tackle vs three SM players just showed the kind of guts and ability he has!! Finally his lob on Hull's spectacular catch was the ballgame

By the way, any attempt at blocking by one of those three guys and that would have been a pick 6, but good job by Driphus recognizing his opportunity after the int

Anyone know anything about Hamilton's injury? He didn't return the last kickoff, but I haven't heard if it was serious.

Oh yeah, he's done. Burr got him pretty good above the hip.
