Best Offense - ECU
Best Defense - Memphis (I want to say UCF, but Memphis has also looked stout.)
Most Well Rounded - ECU... our defense is just good enough to come up with stops, very stout against the run, and creates turnovers. Coupled with our productive offense, I'd say we're the most well-rounded.

Just my opinion.

I think our defense is in the conversation as well. North Carolina scored 41 yeah on the aid of 2 TD's on trickeration and 2 late TD's on our scrubs. They do have a good offense and put 35 on Clemson as well. Virginia Tech dropped 34 on Ohio State as well and we held them to a respectable 21. South Carolina has scored a good amount on everyone. We play at a high pace as well and high plays games.

RE: Best Defense, Best Offense, Best Well-Rounded?
this is too black and white

ecu the most well rounded team leaning on the offensive side
memphis #2 leaning on the defensive side

best run D im going memphis
best pass D im leaning towards houston

i think houston has the most well rounded D, but i think memphis has the best just on how good that Dline is.. ucf and ecu could ease into the conversation as their schedules lighten up, but from today, these are my choices

best pass offense: cincy
best rushing offense: memphis
best overall offense is ecu who is probably a close #2 in both areas..

-ECU and Memphis are both giving up 360 yards per game.

Yards per play given up

ECU 4.8
Memphis 5.1
UCF 5.3

-We also throw for about 40 yards more than Cincy, and have averaged about 400 the last 3 games vs P5's. They really haven't played the kind of teams we have.

-ECU 6.32 yards per Rush
Memphis 4.27 yards per rush

Those are good points, I gave the Memphis D the edge though since their offense isn't as good and I'm assuming (I admit I haven't watched their games) that they are on the field longer.

ECU has the best Offense. USF and UConn have good defenses...that might be really good if there Offense could move the ball.

I have yet to see Memphis play this season so I cannot comment on how good they are.

ECU seems very well rounded.

Our defense's pass rush is definitely lacking, and that kills the secondary as well. @Mizzou and Penn St out of the country isn't an easy way to get the season started, though. The stats for us should improve with time.

ecu passes to set up the run, memphis runs to set up the pass..simply basing it on stats in my opinion is not how to evaluate that. teams load the box vs memphis and have LB's close to the line. when teams play ecu their defense is spread out, DB line up way further back.

i was watching a cbssports half time show about ecu and reviewing some plays and they were talking about how unc's LB were lining up 7-8 yards behind the line of scrimmage and giving too much respect to the pass game which created huge opening for the run. ecu has better rushing stats than alabama oregon and auburn but i dont consider ecu a better rushing team than them.. i think ecu has the #2 run team in the league..but i have to go with memphis as the #1 rushing team

RE: Best Defense, Best Offense, Best Well-Rounded?
I haven't seen memphis play yet. Without looking at any stats what so ever I feel like ECU probably has a top 1-2 run defense. I think it's more difficult to gauge than most people think though. ESPN posted a stat during one of our games, now im not sure of the exact number, but i think it said in the in the past 2 seasons our offense has NEVER been on the field for longer than 5 consecutive minutes. Meaning we don't give our defense much time to rest and they see A LOT of field time.

Because of this, our offensive stats are skewed for the positive and our defensive stats are skewed more negatively.

Make no mistake though, we have a damn good defense.

Good Lord man, the defenses are virtually even. Why do you go through these statistical aerobics when there's no need/call for it?

Here is where they stand according to the official NCAA stats:
Total yards given up per game:
-Memphis 359.3
-ECU 360.8
I see no difference in those 2. Do you really?

I'd compare scoring defense but only they only report the top 50 and only one of the 2 programs is listed.

I'm not going to argue that Memphis' defense is significantly better or even a bit better because both are pretty good and statistics show that they are almost dead even at this point.

Do you really want to argue that one defense is better based on tenths of yards? Has it really come to that?
